3 years? - probably time to look for a replacement regardless.

I find it odd that people replace car batteries before they are toast. I’ve never replaced one before it stopped working or after only 3 years. They’ve always lasted much longer than that; so long that I cannot give out a number; 5-10 years perhaps?

When I was young and poor I would run around for months with batteries that would go dead weekly and require a push start. If I was planning ahead, I would throw an extra one in the bed.

Yes, I also walked barefoot through the snow.

Battery sulfation seems to be the leading cause of battery failure. Pretty easy to fix too. NOCO chargers have a repair feature that will remove the sulfate crystals from the lead plates.

After cleaning. You can also glue a penny right between the two terminals. Any new corrosion will collect on the penny. Pop it off and replace. Old trick of the trade.

My battery is still the factory battery and will be until it stops starting the engine effectively. Build date of Aug 2017 and daily driven since Sept 2017 purchase.

I had a Samurai that I routinely push started because of weak batteries... best part was, I could do it by myself, it was such a light vehicle.

I use a NOCO charger on my RV batteries. On previous chargers, the batteries would get 2 years of life. With the NOCO charger, I currently have 6 years on the existing battery. They are excellent products.

Agreed, as posted above, the battery in my previous car 9 year and 10 months, the battery in my wife's car is well into it's seventh year and still going strong, and the battery in my current car is *only* five years old; it of course is doing well too.

I think it depends more on the location the truck is used. If theres a lot of extreme heat year round a lead acid battery will have a much shorter life.

I was having some problems with my oem battery. It was leaking from the top vents. I had cleaned it and put on noco corrosion pads and spray. Still kept leaking and was attacking the hold down bracket too. The dealer replaced it at my 15,000 Mile service. They said that should not happen.

Another tip regarding the use of coins a bit off topic.... but for those who live in areas where weevils are present:

Put a few pennies in a small jar in your pantry and that will attract weevils out of your flour and corn meal and into the jar....
Reason being: Money is the root of all weevil

I was thinking more Nickleback and less punk. They were long haired wearing flannel before Eycke died. They had a huge skinhead following. I'm sure that ended abruptly. Still not a big of a sell out as Beastie Boys. They are the ultimate sellouts.

Get a can of coca-cola and a toothbrush and go to town. Don't get it in your eyes. The felt pads work wonders once it's clean. Good luck!

I always made it a habit of greasing the post when putting in a new battery or existing new one just for the purpose of eliminating any future corrosion.

if you're getting green corrosion crust on your battery terminals, its leaking...plain and simple. A battery that doesn't leak requires no grease or pads or any other garbage to look perfect for its entire life (before it fails electrically)
