Spending the weekend at Crystal Cove, near impossible to get reservations. It's just north of Laguna Beach.
Packed in, but on a bluff above the Pacific.
Just me and me dogs. Last trip for my boy in front. He has cancer and we'll be putting him down Monday.
A bit of a last harrah.

My deepest sympathies to you and your pack. We’re a dog family too and I know how tough this must be. As others said, I’m happy y’all got to go out one last time.

Is that free? I know just north of you there's a bunch of dispersed in the GMNF. I was gonna unfold my tuktec there to kayak but ended up going elsewhere

I thought y'all might get a kick out of the truck camping last week, but I have to split this into 3 parts as I'm evidently not clever enough to manage a long post with pics.

Last week I headed north from Southern Nevada to the Diamond Range, north of Highway 50. I got a late start the first day and decided to camp partway. The wind was crazy intense from the south, so my first camp was at South Twin River trail head (Big Smoky Valley, Toiyabe Range).

After a super quiet night, I packed up and headed to the primary destination up in the Diamond Range. It was the best location to camp for the work needed, but somewhat exposed (and absolutely beautiful, outstanding solitude). The 30-40 mph winds were at best annoying but did die down some at night. I didn't deploy the topper EZ lift, and went to my other sleeping system for more warmth and more room (the air mattress is posh and a relict from another trip, I actually think it's ok for warmer weather and when I can have the topper up). There's no way I could have survived the wind in a tent or hammock - I have terrible insomnia and tents/hammocks just don't cut it anymore. It was very comfortable in the truck!

Last bit of the trip report - I headed south when we were done, but there was a huge storm in the Monitor Range a few days before. I had planned to camp up a NF road and explore/hunt that canyon, but the road was terrible and since I was solo again at that point, I decided just to beat feet. I camped that night in the desert near a hot spring - kind of trying to be stealthy - and had a soak in the lovely spring the next morning. My first running water in 6 days and wow, was it fabulous. I sure love my truck - it gets me access to some utterly incredible public lands (which I love as much as my truck! :) )

A week into an open ended nomadic trip with the wife. Found some BLM land near Cortez, CO. Hanging out for the day. Staying at Hovenweep but the sites are lacking privacy, not to mention showers. Beautiful weather!20220927_134003.jpg
