When you buy a awd suv just to drive up a forest road once a year to go mtbing

 

You finally took your 1 morning a year off huh. I assume the other 8753 hours of the year you'll be working overtime.

 

This is a man who takes his parking job very serious.

 

Despite popular belief i try to work only 40-50 hours now. Because i make as much if bot more now then when i was paid less and working 60+ hours lol

 

I don't think any of us thought it was about the money for you. Figured you just liked working insane hours

 

Somewhere in the world, there's a walk-in cooler full of beer that isn't cold. He will not rest, he cannot rest, until he finds and repairs it.

 

That was before the kid

 

We kinda figured you'd just one day meet him for the first time when he was 40... He'd be grabbing milk and formula for his kid and you'd be there inside the cooler working on an evaporator coil. He'd open the cooler door and you'd hand him a gallon of milk and say "I'm your dad" and then he'd never see you again.

 

So many "dad left to grab milk.." jokes that can be said...

 

I wanted to flip the trope on its head

 

I assume you'll leave for welding consumables but then come back.....



Only to grab the welder tho

 

Nothing some welding cables, clamps, and a vehicle battery can't handle

I mean...

 

Yeah im not trying to be like every old timer in this industry.

 

Have you noticed a surprising amount of divorcees in your industry? I noticed it at the railroad.

 

I'm so glad I didn't take that job with Union Pacific some 13-15 years back.

3-5 days gone from home at a time. I might as well have been a truck driver so I'd have cool stories to tell.

Doesn't railroad have some unique rules around like... benefits to widows and divorcees? I vaguely recall hearing about that somewhere.

If I were starting over I’d go in through the signal union and then eventually move into the non union side for an office job. Good money and always something to fall back on if you keep your dues paid.

Yeah this industry is known for it. Ive probably seen 3 or 4 at the company i work for in the last 2 years
