That's not a dad truck. Spruce Mica is the best color Toyota has ever done. Muy jealous

That’s a nice truck stock, I’m in the camp build for how you’ll use it. If it’s going to just be a daily driver maybe mild lift and wheels/tires. Once you start down the path with bumpers and sliders and such it turns into an expensive trip!

If I won the lottery it would be a grandpa's truck! I agree re: the color.

I think you shouldn't worry about what other people label you or your truck as, and make it like you prefer it to be.

If you need that stuff for function and it 'toughens' the look, great.

If you add off roading stuff and don't need it, you've moved to the poseur team.

Lots of suggestions to lose the bug deflector. I agree completely. They just look silly, like an effete thin mustache on an artsy-fartsy Frenchman.

Just my two cents. I guess some guys must like 'em.

The rest of the truck? Whatever floats your boat. You're the one who has to pay for it.... and live with it.

You're very welcome! Cool you're a grandpa, I'm 65. Also don't feel like it, just got done splitting a bunch of stubborn firewood. So that's why I've never seen Spruce Mica other than here, just being available a few years.

I just went and took the bug deflector off to check the appearance without it. Found that 4 of the 5 attachments had worn through the plastic protectors and chipped the paint. I touched up those spots, two of them were kinda bad, and you're right I like the look much better. I'll wait for the touch up paint to dry and get a good protective cover (graphene spray) on the edge of the hood tomorrow. I feel like a much younger 64 right now. :)

Remove the bug shield and topper and call it good. I'm going with bigger Falken Wildpeaks next time. That'll make it look mean.

As the dad should ask - what do you want it to do? That is what needs changed to enable the task. It is a tool, not your identity, how's that Sprite commercial from the 90's go? Image is nothing, thirst is everything - it needs to do what you want it to do. Is that dad enough?

Oh yeah, those TRD OR wheels are close to the lightest stock ones you can get (better mileage - more money to spend on trips), KO2s are crazy versatile. Camp more, worry less.

So, no bug guard. Easy, cheap... a gateway mod. I have to get tires anyhow, so something a little bigger is good. Thank you, Eaj71, for the deer whistle reminder. Front bumper and lights in the future. I'm set! Thanks for the input!

Nice truck! This is the answer add to it. I'm a dad and grandpa that drives a truck with a canopy. Wife said my truck looks like it has a dad bod. When we camp she doesn't complain when we load up the bed with all her crap!

Small lift. Bigger tires. Forget the metal bumper idea. Keep it stock-ish. Keep the shell - it's so damn useful. Get rid of the bug mustache. Put a roof rack on the shell.

    Mine is a 06 also.
