Quick audio question

I have 2022 SR5 non-jbl and non-premium audio system. I have already upgraded the speakers with Kickers. I am looking for an amp and the man stated a JL Audio 400.4 would be fine. The specs state that is uses a 40 amp fuse connected to the battery. To me, that seems pretty big. Is that a normal and would it in any way put too much strain on the electrical system such as the alternator and voltage regulator. I do not want to fry anything and void the warranty. Thanks in advance.

 

Does sound a little extreme, but I would always use what the recommended amps asks for. Cant see it being problem, as aftermarket systems have been used for ever now.

 

Use what the amp install instructions say. I have an Alpine power pack amp in my 2020 sr5 same factory radio and kicker speakers. I put mine on a 20 amp circuit directly from the battery but alpine says if the radio is a 20 amp fuse you can tap in to that. I chose not to.

I am not familiar with that amp but I will say adding an amp to mine made a huge difference.

 

The fuse at the battery is less for the amp and more so if the power wire comes off the amp it doesnt short to ground. The size rating is always enough to allow the amp to run, but not low enough that the amp blows it drawing too much power.

If you put too low of a fuse in there, the amp will blow it drawing more power than the fuse allows. If you put a too big in there, then if the power wire shorts to ground it will just burn up the power wire because the fuse can support more current than the wire can.

KTP-445U. I just ran the power off the back of the HU power as described in the installation manual. It has worked quite well for the last 4 years. No complaints about the power output.

It also make installing it plug and play with the right connectors.

 

I used the same connector for mine. I know for the Alpine power pack a separate power cable was not needed but I had to pull one for a powered sub behind the rear seat so it was minimal additional work to pull two wires.

KTP-445U is a universal amp geared towards OEM HU's. The KTP-445P is for Alpine HU's.

Edit: Regardless of amp you pick, you will need harness adapters to install if you do not want to cut factory wiring.

I've found Crutchfield to be more than adequate for any audio upgrades I've made.

I searched for the correct part numbers through Crutchfield and Scosche ( brand of wire adapters ) and then found them on Amazon.

I tried to buy local, but I couldn't find any. In the late 90's and into the 2000's car audio shops were everywhere... now a days, they are all but gone around here. Good thing I now how to do my own work.
