Hey guys, I went to get a load of gravel and the operator hit my truck. When I pointed it out he said something like, "Well, we have a sign." I responded by telling him I could put a sign in my truck that I'm not responsible for an accident but if I hit someone, I doubt that would do much good. I still need more landscape supplies so we agreed to work it out. Anyone have any guesses on how much this might cost to fix? I was getting my own gravel instead of having it delivered to save a few bucks, ugh.

Best to go to a body shop and get a quote. Everyone’s going to chime in with guesses. As well as labor being greatly different based off area.

however I wouldn’t work it out with them, I’d have them or their insurance pay for the repair. No discount they give you will cover the cost of repair or near the cost.

Not sure on cost. If it were me I'd turn it in on my insurance and let them know the other party was at fault. Your policy shouldn't increase as long as they can collect on the businesses insurance, which they should be able to.

I've always rented a truck or a trailer for this type of work.

A lot more than you’d think.
All the work has to be done on the truck.
You can’t pull the cab just to fix it, like you can a door or fender.

If I were the one that did, I’d live with it as long as it doesn’t leak.

But since it wasn’t you that did it, maybe get an estimate and go from there. And be fair on the estimate, some shops ALWAYS quote high.

So if he runs somebody over with his loader he’s not liable?

Start writing down everything thst happened. Right from the beginning. What you bought, where you went and parked. Even describe the operator and the conversation that took place.
Keep the receipts of the load. The estimates. Pictures. Take a picture of the sign. Etc etc
No detail is top small. It'll help you down the road, if necessary.
Contact the manager of the company and document this phone call as well. Date, time etc.

Damn! Lesson #1. Don’t ever trust a loader operator with your truck.
#2. Pay the delivery cost. ( cheaper than body repair)

Oh man, sorry that happened to you. Could be the bad karma from having a Jeep as an avatar

From you pic, it looks like your doors aren't lined up at the top. Were they like that before the hit? How's the access door working? You might want to run some water on it to see if you have any leaks.

Like others have said, the costs to fix could be much higher than any discount. Get it checked out before you agree to any deals.

Good luck  I hope everything works out for you.

A skilled PDR tech can probably pop the dents out. You could then touch up the scrapes with some paint and then it will be a permanent reminder that you should never trust anyone in this world for anything, ever again.

Guess it depends on how far you want to push it. The business has insurance so they should be able to pay for repairs.

it looks minor but I’d probably say $5k to repair

    Shit that sucks!
I did a bunch of loads last year from a local place.
The woman running the loader was so good.

This is the same issue as tandem trucks that have the sign “stay back 200’, not responsible for broken windshields”

This is bull crap and they are in fact responsible for anything that comes off a truck.

Now to your issue. I had some damage done to a trailer at a landscape supply yard. The operator crushed one of my fenders. They too had a sign. Yeah, they gave me 650.00 and fired the employee due to failed drug test.

It shouldn't matter how much it cost as you shouldn't be paying for it, the responsible party (gravel company / operator) should.
