That sucks! I wanted to get a Millermatic 211 but not if it doesn't run that long. One of the first projects I had in mind was a 20 foot wrought iron gate.

I picked up a millermatic 211 mvp with autoset about 2 weeks ago. Your cycle time is also going to be dependant on your voltage and wattage. I ran both the 115 and 230 and not had a problem with any cycle time issues.
granted, i'm doing small piece work presently. Also the miller dealer informed that the welders that you purchase in a welding shop run way longer cycle times than that of those which you find at lowes, harbour frieght etc. Even though they are labeled the same.
So far my 211 and purchased bottle of mix along with some wire brushes, welding mask and other goodies is the best investment I have made in a long time. This thing welds 3/8 like it was nothing.

And here is one of my very first welds ever. I welded some aluminum awnings back in like "91" for a couple days at the shop I used to work at. Other than that, I am a complete noob.

Nice job Matic, you can definitely see it was a bit cold right where you struck the arc but heated up nice near the end. Not sure how to fix that, maybe a tiny bit more heat and slower wire speed, then just move a bit slower?

Yea. I'm using the autoset feature for the time being so it sets the wattage and wire speed. The 211 is supposed to eliminate the cold start. I will try some more this weekend. Really lookin forward to getting my welding table built. It's small but should do me for the time being.
I guess is simply no more than a piece of 3/8 piece of steel welded to some 3 inch square 3/16 square tubing.

    Thx Jerry.
Hope I get some time in this weekend to weld some. I think I have 2 hrs under my belt.
I get all psyched to get in the garage and put some time in, then realization hits.
    "prep time".

Anybody into a plasma cutter? I just picked up a Thermal Dynamics model 39 for the garage. About all I've done is mount a filter on the back for the air before giving it a try. Seems to work well.

The main selling point was it's lower price (than a 375) and lower cost of consumables. Pretty nice rig.

There was something I read about that. I want to say it happens because the air pressure isn't high enough but I don't remember.

Using plasma is way easier and faster than anything else...I can live with chipping the slag off the back :D

I'm in field as we speak and your stringers look great maybe a little cold in some spots on root like said or could be rod angle and penetration needed. Don't know if you plan on doing pipe like me but wait till you get sone 6g welds. If you get those down you'll be alright

Thanks, my instructor won't let me turn shit in unless its pretty much perfect.

I'll be learning that in the fall, and doing destructive testing.
