I've mentioned exactly what you describe in different threads as well. And I still get that out of park lunge as well especially if I don't properly warm up the engine. But that isn't the issue I was describing in this thread. Thank you for your input though! Appreciate you taking the time to respond.

I have had it accelerate by itself too.
2021 V6 Automatic about 15k miles when it happened.

I was driving in my neighborhood going about 15 mph or so. I took my foot off the gas pedal since I was going to turn left within half a block. The truck at first responded normally as expected when you lift off the pedal but then within 2 seconds it accelerated itself. Not full 100% throttle but more like a 20% throttle. It scared the shit out of me and I immediately pushed the brake pedal. No check engine lights and no messages or alerts. It did not downshift either. I got home and scanned the obd2 and no codes or pending codes. I went right back out and drove around trying to recreate it and nothing. It has never happened again and I am at 28k miles now.

I didn’t bother with the dealership because they are always full of shit and liars.

Wild guess would be an momentary glitch in the software that controls Toyota’s “Force Value” software. Appears the software that has the Transmission and engine talking to each other trying to anticipate your throttle input messed up? Basically rudimentary AI controlling engine and transmission parameters. Again, Just my wild guess.

sounds like the "AI-SHIFT" was thinking you needed some acceleration for your lane change. maybe you need to have a serious chat with your AI. hopefully you can convince this great intelligence that it's dangerous.

on a serious note, it probably just downshifted or something weird with unlocking/locking TC

Mine was the exact same way as you describe. I lifted my foot off the gas pedal and it was fine then just like you said about 2 seconds later it began accelerating.

No sir, didn't notice any downshift. It just surged ahead while maintaining the gear it was already in.

I've got over 18k on my 3.5. Only time the engine picks up rpm without applying the go petal is when its still not up to operating temps.

When it happened to mine it was after a 30 minute drive. Engine was fully warm and normal operating temp.
    It’s never happened again.
Cold startup yeah I have the normal higher idle rpms but of course that’s normal.

That was mine too, no downshift either.

It kind of pissed me off too for not buying a manual because instant natural reaction would be to clutch in and brakes. In the auto my natural reaction was NOT to move the shifter into N. Instead it was just a horror feeling then brakes.

Took me a couple of days to stop driving with my hand on the shifter waiting for it to happen again.

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
IF it ever happens. the computer is programed to kill all throttle if you hit the brake and the gas pedal. every single time someone comes into the dealer complaining about unintended acceleration.. its always something like double stack floor mats or pedal commander type things doing weird shit.

I too, had this same issues, on about 3 or 4 different occasions. Seems like the rpm goes up fast but the acceleration doesn’t match the rpm. It’s happened to me on the highway while under acceleration to pass, or switch lanes

I have a KDMax tune and the Meso Total Tail Stage 1 mod. I've never experienced anything like this except for when changing lanes with adaptive cruise on and the area in front of the truck is clear in the new lane. That's expected behavior though.

My 3.5 seems to take an abnormal amount of time to come up to full operating temps. The high idle will go up and down a few times before settling down for good. Its kind of weird vs the tundra i had that warmed up much sooner. Brought it up to the dealers service writer during my toyotacare...they said its normal for these engines. Its even weirder on cold winter days when sitting at a red traffic light, the temp gauge will go from mid way down to 1/3, then back to mid way once i'm under way again. In the summer its always at mid point after the engine has warmed up fully.

It should throw you into limp mode, but that requires the accelerator and brake pedal to be depressed at the same time. If the accelerator wasn't being touched, then you could be correct and power may not be removed. Definitely good info to help narrow down the potential issue.
