1st Gen Lunchtable Thread - General Discussion

I keep hearing this "you need to take care of yourself" proclamation. Even my boss rattles on about it. As I type this, I'm at work, on a Sunday for an Electrical shut down that just couldn't happen at any other time during the week.

Meetings! Looking at my calendar, there's 15 hours of meetings scheduled for this week. Of those 15, 2 hours may prove productive. The other 13 I'll have to make up for by actually getting something done. So another 60+ hour week. The bright side is during Jan/Feb I'll just be prepping for 2023 projects that really don't require much effort. I really need some heated shop space for winter.

 

Yeah, that is frustrating, especially when it's effective and has less side effects than other kinds of prescription sleep aids. Ambien keeps you out but the next day is always a fog

How hard is it to get ambien anyway? Prescription needed?

I only ask cause the only time I took it was in the service, and that's cause our corpsman always had it on him so he hooked me up once.

Exactly. Tried pure CBD and it didn't have the same affect as the 2.5mg THC / 2.5mg CBD. Our company and the client the we primarily work for a pretty serious about it. Decided to just lay off all together and not risk it.

 

Your regular doc can prescribe it. There was a time earlier in the summer where I was stuck in a flashback and couldn't sleep more than 2-3 hours a night and my doc gave me a small fill to get me through it.

When you made that comment about being able to knock out at a moments notice (IE baby just fell asleep), that reminds me of my days in the service.

So sleep deprived that you could literally lay on the ground with your head on a rock, and still catch a quick nap and feel revitalized again.

 

Ouch, that's terrible. Well good thing it's not something happening now.

Would you say having moved helped with your mental health?

 

I feel for you guys that have sleep issues. My dad is lucky to get 3-4 hours per night. I could sleep through an invasion.

 

The fucked up reality of sleep anyway is that you can't stock up on it, nor can you really make up for lost sleep by sleeping more later. Sleep deprivation is a legit health concern if it gets bad enough


I would be wary about taking Ambien unless it's legitimately needed, it's a narcotic and you can get hooked on it much like Valium/Xanax (similar type of drug) with horrible withdrawal characteristics

 

Oh yeah I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, was just curious. I only ever took it once during a layover from Kuwait to Germany...fuck that sucked cause I mixed it with Jack & Coke

I just don't recommend any medications to anyone; I grew up never taking anything for any reason and well, maybe that's why I never get sick either?

 

Yeah my body basically started recognizing the baby's routine of waking up every 3 hours and for the first and only time in my life I was able to knock out by just closing my eyes for a minute. I wish I had retained that lol

 

Definitely. A lot happened. I moved to an area that was a lot more laid back, and also close enough that some basic hikes and bike rides are 30~ min away so I started to get out more and try to do at least one night every week. In Aurora I spent so much time/energy killing every week night because there wasn't much for me there. I just needed to get to the weekend so I could drive 1-2 hours on the weekend to go outdoors. And the whole process was still exhausting because even a short hike was 2-5 hours total of driving lol

Once I achieved my goal of getting outdoors more it gave me an opportunity to step back and ask why I was spending so much time/energy being busy all the time. I was working all day and then often working on cars or the house til midnight to be exhausted enough to sleep before doing it again. I think in total I bought/sold 7 flip cars in the 4 years I was there and did a ton of Interior/exterior updates to the house. I kind of had to do it to get here and I'm glad I did, in a way.

That kind of lead to the realization and discovery of a lot of unresolved personal history so now my energy goes to dealing with that haha. Taking care of a body and heart i spent decades ignoring is... something

But yeah, mental health is much better and my life is substantially more peaceful
