Hey guys so I’m thinking of selling my 1st gen double cab and getting a 2nd gen access cab, just having a little bit of a hard time trying to convince myself that it would be the right move to make. Reason for wanting to sell cause it has a 6 inch lift and I’ve gotten tired of it already and I just want a more comfortable ride in a truck with somewhat less mileage and problems. So the question im going to ask is would it be worth it?

I would not do anything but a 14 or 15 due to frame warranty. I tried finding a decent 2nd gen with low miles and well maintained. Good luck with that. Then everyone wants top dollar. I know the last one I wanted in MA was a spruce mica access 4.0l with 16k miles but they want $33k. Lot of cash for an 8-year-old vehicle. In the end the financing and warranty is what made me go new.

I agree, everyone nowadays want the most they can get out of their trucks but the truck I am looking at I feel like is a good deal, it’s a 2013 access cab at with only 54000 miles, guy is asking 27k for it but I think I could bring it down a little

I just paid 35k for a 22 SR v6. SR5s go about $37k. Really a no brainer vs 28k-33k used. I also would not buy a used vehicle that has been lifted.

Your well maintained 1st gen is a rarity and I'd keep it. Just get smaller tires?

I would never buy a used Tacoma. Not so much because of the truck itself but because I’ve seen how some people abuse their trucks on this website. Off-roading, accidentally draining the transmission fluid, going through lakes, etc etc.

Have you considered the cost to revert it back to stock ? That is a nice looking rig. And if its reliable and not a basket case keep it.

I've owned both 1st and 2nd gen and loved them both... I put over a 100K on my 1st gen and it gave me no trouble. But... I like my 2nd gen better. The most obvious thing that concerned me about the 1st gen was that on the freeway at highway speeds the truck would lean suddenly in some corners at higher speeds. It was sudden and a little disconcerting. I didn't like that the clock was underneath the steering wheel so I had to tilt my head to see it, but that's pretty minor. The bonus in the 2nd gen is slightly more room and the wider track, and the towing capacity.

As for whether you should or not... only if it's worth the money.

If you want a more comfortable, stock type, ride. Wouldn't it be cheaper to just return it back to stock?

You already know everything about your truck so you won't have any nightmare surprises like you would buying an unknown other truck.

    Just a curious question.

Man, your 1st gen is SWEET. If you can reverse the lift, I'd keep that truck. Assuming it has the 3.4l 5VZFE, that's a dead reliable engine. It's not even an interference engine so if the timing belt breaks, you tow it in, replace the belt and water pump, and back off to the races.
If you don't have a lot of rust on the frame, the truck you have should last a good long time yet.

I thought of it but looks wise and off road the 35s work much better
