Hi, I was told that I get 3 years map updates when I purchased my 2020 tacoma. According to the manual and screen on the truck, I need to go to the dealer for the updates. The dealer never has updates, toyota canada also doesn't seem to know anything about updates except to tell me that my truck has 3 years free updates. Is there any way to get updates without going through the dealer?

    Oh look, another mod....
This is how. The guy in the video does it for his 4runner, but it applies to all Entune systems:

Do you think things change that much, that you need updates? I know they are supposed to do it for free. But I don't notice that much, where it's needed. Just my opinion.

My map data is 7 years old. Yes, some speed limits in my area have changed and the Nav does not reflect the new speed. I have only needed to use Entune Nav to get me to long established locations which it does a great job. If I was needing to find new addresses on new streets I might update.

I'm on my 5th year, and haven't done any updates. Between the GPS system and or my iPhone, I've never had an issue getting lost.

No, I do not look at Nav for the speed limit. Just stating that seems to come with having outdated maps.

Thanks everyone, I'll try updating it online, I don't know if it will work as the toyota updating site is for the US and the toyota.ca site doesn't have the updating feature.

The update cycle is in September, check with a dealers parts department for cost. I think its 400$ or something stupid.

It is 100% not worth it. We advise against it at my dealer, the updates rarely have any significant changes.

Use the carplay/android auto built in. All factory navs suck.

2020+ map file has to be updated by the dealer. They input your VIN, subscription number, and the subscription expiration date from the headunit into TIS; TIS then gives a code. Using a magic USB drive Toyota mails to dealers yearly, they connect the drive and input the code in the head unit.

T-SB-0047-19 Rev2 has full details, attached.

The map itself is included in the 3-year intitial subscription, but the labor to install is supposedly at customer cost.

The nav system in my 2019 Tacoma often takes me on the wrong route or long way or doesn't have the necessary data. My portable Garmin GPS is far superior with both data and general usefulness and it came with free updates, lifetime.
