pretty sure they knew everything i had was fake - no bugs out this time of year!
that's on the gallatin along highway 191 between yelly and home. haven't fished that stretch before, its always too busy. but its a good run. lots of rapids and then a flat stretch with some deep holes, and more rapids. definitely going back!

Sometimes you have to flip over a few rocks and see what’s crawling on the bottom of them. Then you match them as best you can.

i was going for hoppers and ants - they're still around. even tried your crack fly again but all he managed to catch was some algae and a twig!
def need to add to my fly selection though. got to have one for every river and every season!

You would never let me forget you.

    Now where is Miss Susan?
We are heading out there in October to scout the damage. Someone suggested paving the road to Cerro Gordo...lol

Be careful it becomes a addiction I just about never walk out of a fly shop without flies. And I order them online as well but I usually have something they want but it’s a lot of knots sometimes. A guide when I was out there taught me something he would say cast it there and after a while he would tie something else on and say same drift. I would have moved on if it was left up to me. So I said what your telling me is he’s there and he said yes we just haven’t tried the right fly yet.

dad always has plenty of spares - so long as i want humpies or wulfs or mosquitoes
i pick up a few here and there as the summer has gone on. usually get a bakers dozen as most stores offer that - some new and some that i've had luck with and just want a spare. i also find it worthwhile to stroll through the lots at the fishing accesses...i find so many flies just dumped on the ground!

I used to hunt out of Cle Elum in the Taneum Creek area. That is until we ran into multiple cats within a few miles. First encounter was a mom and 3 kittens just off an abandoned logging road. The other was a huge male in the deep dark woods. We had walked through an opening filled with the bones of multiple species. That should have been our first clue. The final scene from The Gray with Liam Neeson comes to mind. But the one that still haunts me was when I was hunting out of Enumclaw. I left footprints in the soft mud along the riverbank and on my return trip 45-50 minutes later there were large cats tracks in my tracks going the same direction. Cue the suspenseful music…

If I recall correctly, there was a spot on the map not too far away that was called Cougar ridge. That was the only time I ever saw a live cougar in the wild. Not for lack of trying, as I bought a cougar tag every year after that.:anonymous:
