Most oils are made by Warren Distribution. They all perform pretty well nowadays.

Todd w/ Project Farm will set you straight

There is no harm using high mileage synthetic in the 4.0. I get a good deal on Pennzoil plat high mileage and my truck has 110k.

Other than unneeded premature wear on seals that are being swelled by the "high mileage" additives.

Please show me where you get your info on high mileage oil creating premature wear on seals?

Most oils have seal conditioners in them. High mileage has a bit more. The oil helps re saturate the seals. The seals themselves don't actually get bigger lol. Hard rubber seals don't magically grow with an oil additive.

This is from Bob the oil guy

Conditioning seals refers to the following actions:

    1) Increasing seal pliability due to molecular replacement of the Seal's elastomer
    2) Seal cleaning,

Nothing can repair or rebuild a failed or damaged seal.

Since about 1974, mineral and synthetic formulations have solved the seal "shrink-swell" problem.

I did see that on the AB bottle and recognized the Warren name. I still don't trust Amazon but in this case, I doubt Warren would allow a "cheapening degradation" of the product. Thanks for the reply.

Toyota sets their oil change intervals based on what their own Toyota Genuine Motor Oil (TGMO) is (conventional or synthetic). The 1GR 4.0 single VVT-i was never back-spec'd for 0w20 (synthetic). TGMO 5w30 is conventional. So Toyota plays it safe and assumes all 5w30 is conventional (even though they know that's not true). This minimizes the chance that someone will lug around town for 10k miles on a conventional. They realize the average person doesn’t have a clue what oil is in their engine.

It's the same reason Toyota says the 2GR 3.5 can use 5w20 but must return to 0w20 at the next 5k interval. Their own 5w20 is conventional.

And high mileage oils aren't just for engines with leaks. All oils contain seal and gasket conditioners. HM formulas simply have a bit more. But their main benefit is they usually contain additional detergents and are made with a little heavier base stock. They tend to be on the upper ends if their viscosity ratings. Many often contain added zinc or moly and other antiwear components. Run them with out worry.

Personally, since I eat so much Pizza, I just piss into the oil filler and let the olive oil lube the engine

The consensus is always the same. A large group is influenced or swayed by advertising, this same group believe testimonials by minor celebrities or has been racers then there are the regional favorites that make sense because it’s the way we’ve always done it. Finally a smaller group of licensed mechanics, engineers or those that have observed the products for decades in usage. This final group understands how API and other agencies rate the products. Main takeaway though is you can use anything that meets the standards set forth by the manufacturer.

I've owned my 2011 Tacoma for seven years now. I've always used Mobil 1 full synthetic 5-30 with an OEM filter. Never had a problem with it. I do not use the high mileage blend per several of my mechanic friends advice.

    I got good advice.
I've never had a problem with it.
Spending a little extra for the good stuff prevents paying for major repairs later.
Maintenance is rather important for any vehicle.

I think we should just start a new thread on "Best Looking Blonde." It will make about as much sense as this thread and others like it.
