I don’t think I’ve ever told this story. The first time I took out the boat, I beached myself in the San Francisco Bay. My buddy and I jumped in the water, pants off, trying to unbeach it. It was so bad, and getting dark, I called the Coast Guard.

The second time, I noticed we were actively sinking in the boat launch. We also lost all power, so no bilge pump. It got so bad I started bailing out the boat with a soda cup.

The tarp also broke in a bad storm when it was parked in a yard. Water got in, and I became the first person ever to own a boat that sinks on both land and water.

10/10 would buy a 1977 Bayliner again

Last Saturday I replaced the big expensive rear lower control arms with some Mevotech from RockAuto. The Curry Johnny joints were shot after 15,000 miles. They were flopping around and making noise. I'm calling the Mevotechs a temporary patch until I decide what to do about getting something with a thicker bar or just replace the cheapy as I go. It's much quieter now without the clacking Johnny Joints. The Mevotech replacements were only $59 each. The other arms are $435 for a set.

I've heard with Johnnys you have to remove and clean them regularly to avoid this. Which seems to defeat the purpose of having the zerk a bit. Have you considered these...

That sucks... and also shouldn't be able to happen physically without super worn engine mounts. That or his skids folded and he hit the diff which then hit the oil pan. Bring steelstik and JB weld and you can fix even that if you have enough oil to refill

Those do look like some fine arms. The old arms had zerks, but grease didn't seem to flow where the bushings needed it. It also seemed to become a dirt magnet making the dirt and grit problem worse. I hadn't heard about needing to regularly remove and clean a Johnny. Seems like high maintenance for something that didn't bring any more functionality than a stock arm.

 

It feels like a genuine push like I would have given earlier on in my working on shit days. I just want this truck to be be closer to where I left off with the last two. Feels like I've been driving a compromise and I'm tired of all the parts to fix that just sitting on the shelves. Once the sliders are on it is at least to the level the last couple were at... plus 35s

I hope so. I'm not always in the mood to wrench but I enjoy it more than just about anything else I could be doing at home. I do find that working on my own stuff feels like a chore, I work on others' just as often now and that is typically more enjoyable. But it goes the other way when on my own stuff too if I have company.

 

Did a timing belt for someone yesterday and hated myself so much less than normal. Dude was a friend too so I didn’t even charge him.
