Btw, would running through a deep mud puddle wreck an alternator? Mine died on the way home. I was able to limp home on battery power, but it was interesting watching the dash light up as various systems went off-line.

Spotting and team work all around was superb. How I got out of those trees without a scratch is beyond incredible!

Alternators generally don't like getting water in them.

It was fun getting you out.

Damn, that sucks! It seems like something must have happened. How many miles do you have?

That seems premature for an alternator. Hopefully it doesn't set you back too much!

Keep asking, stay persistent, and be sure to explain the importance of recovery options.

Eventually you might get a clearer response that is easier to understand. Once you hear “Do whatever the f**k you want!” then you know she concurs with your reasoning, and you can buy with confidence!!!

Stupidly expensive, but I'm not surprised.

Can you take a picture of the mud/water marks around that area? And also of the alternator when it’s out to see how much mud got on it?

I guess all this fun we’re having means some possible additional maintanance…. It would be good to get a data point on the alternator thing since I’ve been wondering about that specifically as well.

Collecting info on our failures (since we wheel in similar conditions) would help in figuring out a good balanced budget between mods and maintainance. Or…..could help justify more mods to protect the alternator :).

I will definitely do that. I'm surprised that it went out and from everything I've read so far, it shouldn't be from off roading. Who knows though. I just talked to the shop, they'll have it out so I can take pictures. I can't keep it due to the core charge.

Maybe tell her about the guy who died in front of his wife and kids in AZ due to a recovery attempt with improper equipment. :notsure:

This is excellent advice right here!

Thankfully no but scared the crap out of me while driving. Thought my windshield was going to cave in and had to slow down to like 10pm on US45.

For that price you can upgrade to an aftermarket 270 amp alternator. Ouch man, good luck.

Yeah, if I had a spare vehicle, I would have just done it myself over the weekend after shopping around for options. I have too much other crap going on at work this week so I had to bite the bullet.
