I just installed a new throttle body on my 2003 3.4l tacoma with cable. Is there a relearning process that I have to go through.

Did you determine that your truck was cable operated and not a fly-by-wire 03?

03-04 are not true drive by wire. They're still cable driven.

But the TB has some different sensors on it, right? Either way- the OP had posted last week about the fly by wire version being discontinued.

The TB is completely different from 02 and older. IIRC 01-02 4R and 03-04 taco share the same TB.

Regular TB prior to 03. There's a few different variant but look similar.

The 03-04 is not a true drive-by-wire setup, but does have a sensor connected to that cable telling the computer how much throttle is input.

I think the cable exists to allow one to drive in "limp mode" right?

Issue being that if youre got an issue with said system, you can't replace the part itself and instead need to replace the entire throttle body.

I don't know much but I think the transmission is slightly different as well since there's no kickdown cable.

Speed sensor/wiring is different for sure.

That's why 03-04 4x4 swaps are a bit more difficult due to the specific parts required.

The ECTS throttle body applies to the V6 though not the I4.

Idle should return to normal within a few hundred miles of driving if that's what you mean. When I pulled mine off to clean it and reinstalled, it idled high for a day or two.

usually pulling the EFI fuse is good enough, then have to let it relearn as @eon_blue mentioned.
