You might have never heard of the Detroit but depending on your age you have heard them.

All through the 50s into 80s the 2 stroke Detroit engines were everywhere from over the road trucks, fire trucks, boats, construction equipment, forestry equipment and almost all highway busses of the era.

Detroits have a "buffer screw" adjustment to make the engine idle smooth but just a bit faster when adjusted properly.

Engines built for Greyhound did not have the buffer adjustment in the governor as idling faster used a tiny bit more fuel, by eliminating it they saved substantial fuel over the entire company albeit producing a rougher idle.

If you happen to see an old movie with a Highway bus idling you can sometimes pick up on the distinctive rough Detroit idle especially in lower budget movies where actual recorded sound was used as opposed to being added later.

If you have a big propane tank on site that works well, propane doesn't degrade like gasoline either.

The downside is that gasoline is much easier to obtain when times are difficult.

Cheapskate tip of the day.

I'm often looking for a hunk of wire to poke into an orifice of some description, clogged spray can nozzle, black powder nipple, etc.

My kids both play guitars, do I scooped a set of strings cut a foot or so off and put them on a key ring. I used small shrink tubing to keep them under control, just slide it back to use whichever wire fits best. I'm pretty low tech. :)16642149605437151993752457694966.jpg

I’m over in Pensacola so effects will be minimal for me. They are saying high surf but that’s it so far. We have a 50% chance of rain Thursday and Friday but that seems to be more from the cold front that the storm.

The public listen to EM evac orders? As a retired cop, I feel your pain with dealing with the idiots.

Because of the job I’ve rode out all the storms since Opal back in 95.

Honestly on that housing as soon as it really stops turning it's tight enough. Same with the Camry we had.

2017 I believe. Owner wrapped their phone charging cable around the steering wheel. That destroyed the clock spring.

But if I went with "good enough" I wouldn't get to buy a new toy. Don't take that from me. It's all I have!

The holy grail of Duramax’s. It belongs to a friend of mine, ran into him at the bank. 3500HD, 4x4, regular cab, Duramax, with a regular bed. All the ones I’ve seen have flat beds on them.
