Follow this pinch weld tutorial - Finally, the Pinch Weld Mod – ADVENTURETACO

This won't ensure fitment, but will add some needed clearance.

Reason why a "lift" won't work exactly the way one hopes is because of the suspensions geometry. Consider how your suspension cycles and understand that, it will (often) reach a point where your wheels are in the same position they are now as your suspension compresses and extends.

A body lift could help add clearance from say, your flares but most people just trim/cut parts out anyway.

A proper alignment with added caster helps aid in fitment as well.

Considering a skinnier tire will lessen the chances of rubbing too.

In case you're on your phone and not a computer, it could be hard to see this but the site has a few nice features including a bunch of stickies.

This should help in your case - Tire Size Calculator - Compare Tire Sizes | Tacoma World

I'm not sure what the equivalent is in a 15" wheel but a common skinny 33" tire (mounted on a 16" wheel) is 255/85/16.

I've used this size myself as well as several others I know personally.

Rubbing does occur but most of it can be fixed with the pinch weld mod I posted above.
