Thanks for replying so quick. I had been curious as to anyone's experience with their hitch set ups, so this is all great info. I have a manual so trans temps aren't a concern, but definitely I noticed the tongue weight is up there right off the bat.

If you load the trailer to max GVWR you'll be pulling about 4500 lbs. Yes, you can pull that trailer, but you'll still have to pack carefully and that is about as much as I'd pull with a Tacoma. I just sold a very similar size/weight travel trailer. My Tacoma pulled it maybe 200 miles total while I owned it, and it did fine. But I also own a newer F150, and it pulled it a lot better. I wouldn't have hesitated to pull it with my Tacoma however. The Ford is just a lot newer vehicle.

If you plan to pull that trailer in mountains, especially much above 5000', you'll know its back there. If trying to cross some of the mountain passes in the Rockies at 10,000-12,000' it will be a workout. But it will be for most bigger trucks too. If you live at altitude and all towing will be above 5000' then a better truck might be in order. For lower altitudes and fairly level or rolling terrain you'll pull it just fine.

The real limiting factor is Tacoma's limited payload. The listed tongue weight in the brochure doesn't mean beans. In the real world a 4500 lb trailer along with a Weight Distribution Hitch will put 650-700 lbs on your truck's suspension. The payload of most Tacoma's will fall between 1000-1300 lbs. Check the rating on your truck. It is on a sticker on the driver's door jamb.

If you only have 1000 lbs payload that only leaves about 300 lbs for you, any passengers and cargo inside the truck. If you're at 1300 lbs you have a little more room to work with. I'd try to keep the loaded trailer weight under 4000 lbs and just be aware that you can't carry a lot in the truck. If you're wanting to pull that trailer AND haul 4 full adult men in the cab you need a bigger truck. Four adult men can easily weigh 800-1000 lbs and that will just about max out your payload even without a trailer.

Thanks for pointing out the payload issues. I calcd my payload to be 1145lbs....2 adults (200lbs a piece high estimate), 1 child (100 lbs high estimate) leaves 645lbs for tongue weight etc. If I can keep weight off the tongue I should be good. We never have carried water (clean or grey/black) before with our class C, but I'll probably have to put myself on the local CAT scale and see what I can do if we do get this trailer. I like small trailers.....my wife likes medium sized trailers. Lol

Make sure you have at least 10% of the trailer weight on the tongue.
