Anyone have some leads on security hardware for bed tie downs?

I’m interested in replacing the oem tie down loops with something more secure, either some special security head hardware or something even better. I want to be able to use some chains and locks to secure stuff (bikes, coolers, etc) in the bed. What do you all do?

I'm interested in this as well. Not as much for security, but added function. I would like to find a fastener with another set of threads in it to attach bed mounted bike rack to it. Will likely have to be custom, I have not seen anything like it so far.

It is already a custom stock fastener since it is sort of a short shoulder bolt to allow the tie down rotate. I would like a different head shape and then internal threads into the head. No way fastenal will have something like that.

Charvonia, Hooke off road, BAMF, At the Helm, all make some nice tie downs. Or you could get some bed stiffeners as well. Not sure if I’d trust them to lock an expensive bike to for more than a quick trip into a gas station or something though.

Have you taken the bolts loose yet? They are not easy and a cheater bar is required. If you really want to make them secure use red loctite ...

Also, I will leave nothing in the bed unless it has a cover. Motels? It comes in the room, including bikes. Nothing beats a sawzall. Nothing.

I read it as the lower tie downs not the adjustable ones on the rail. My reading comprehension needs a tune up.

Not much will be secure as stated above. I always cut the hooks off my tie downs and replace with rock climbing carabiners. They make carabiners with locks on them, but not sure on the strength of them, but that would do what you are asking. Still kinda think it’s pointless as still easily stolen with anything that can cut the strap or chain.

On vehicles I do leave motorcycles and such on, or trailers attached, I’ve always modified the vehicles alarm so I run a sensor wire through the wheels / frame etc, so that the item can’t be moved without breaking or disconnecting the wire, and the connection is broken it sets off the vehicles alarm. Won’t stop anyone but at least it might get my or someone’s attention. I’ve not looked into doing that on the Tacomas alarm, but it wouldn’t be hard.

I use the D rings by the tailgate and and the lower tie down points in the bed, up there by the cab.

The rail cleats, I seldom use.

Yeah, I just want to do something so the tie downs don’t have normal hardware, I can figure something secure. The main use case is locking bikes in bed while stopping for after ride beers at the local
Watering hole or while stopping somewhere on route to a ride. Doesn’t have to be super secure (I will use an abus chain and lock) but something better than offender only needing a ratchet and torx head (I forget what the hardware is but it was normal) is ideal.

I tack welded one of the bolts on a tiedown so I had a secure point to lock up.
