I picked up a GE Double Oven for powdercoating. It runs on 240v.

What gauge wire do you think I would need to run from the breaker to the plug, maybe 3 feet away?

I currently have a 30a circuit ran for my compressor, the run is very short - as the panel is opposite of the outlet on the wall. I was wondering if it was okay to just swap the 30a breaker for a 50a one, and replace the 10-30R receptacle with a 14-50 (or other 50a outlet) to run the oven.

Run a dedicated breaker for the oven..

That’s already on a dedicated breaker. I just want to know if I can swap the outlet and breaker from the 30a one to a 50a one. The run is short, only three feet.

What does the oven call for?

Oh you’re just going to unplug the compressor to use the oven? Eh. What’s the oven rated for?

That’s the info I’ve been unable to find. It’s supposed to be hard wired into a junction box since it’s a built in oven, but since it’s on wheels not to be installed permanently I have to put a plug on it.

Damn manuals won’t tell me. They just say hook it up to a junction box. I’ll keep looking but I can only assume it runs north of 50 amps.

Should be a nameplate on it somewhere listing watts. Need to know rated current to determine wire size and OCP.

    What he said.
Granted it’s older, our kitchen aid has the info inside the thing behind a panel

Like @Empty_Lord said, it may be near the panel where the conductors enter the unit. My dryer and oven have a small removable plate where the conductors enter for connection.

I found it. Don’t know if that’s what you’re looking for.

Ignore the missing control panel. I dropped the whole oven from my truck and it shattered haha.

Not accounting for voltage drop. Also, could cause issues if using "continuously" (i.e. for 3+ hours at high temps). Don't have the code book in front of me either for special conditions.

Wow the damn thing only takes 30A? So I could run it off my NEMA 10-30 plug? I see that the original install bonded the ground and neutral together. My 10-30 has two hots and a ground. No neutral. BUT there is a neutral in the wall not connected to anything.
