As stated above, many of the houses have legit whole-house split-system central A/C systems. I was surprised, since these houses are unlivable from the beginning of December until spring of the next year due to the water being shut off. I could not tell if the house at which this Carrier central A/C unit was located was a renovated older home or a complete rebuild...

A good number of the houses have no permanent air-conditioning and rely on window A/C units...

Including the one we rented, which had a single window A/C unit in my bedroom; I did turn on the A/C at night when it got a bit stuffy in my room at night, but I never left it on all night and A/C was generally not needed during the week we were there...

I saw a lot of houses with ductless mini-splits; I have no idea if they were heat pumps or straight-cool units, but our house had electric baseboard heat despite having gas for the stove and water heater, so anything is possible. This unit in was at the house directly behind ours, and the walkway to our house went right past it, so that's how I got such a closeup picture...

Every time I see a window unit I think of this happening.

I believe that this Carrier unit is actually a traditional split-system, but a side-discharge unit meant for a narrow lots...

My Goodman from 2008 is still going strong. Since new, I've replaced the compressor cap, put in a hard start kit, compressor contactor, blower motor cap, and most recently the control board.

New board is made my Emerson but sold under white-rogers.

Yours has a Copeland-Scroll compressor, correct? The majority of the pre-2006 Goodmans were junk, with the exception of the roughly 1993-1999 units with the isolated compressor that copied a Lennox design...

Not sure on the brand to be honest. Here's the parts breakdown, I have the "M16" model.

A quick google search showed me yes indeed it is a Copeland Scroll compressor.

I can't decipher that, LOL. Would it be possible for you to get a picture down inside the unit through the fan grille? I'll definitely be able to identify the compressor through pictures...

Yup! That's a good compressor. With the possible exception of the Climatuff reciprocating compressors made in-house by Trane/American Standard, Climatuff is probably the best...

My parents' old house had dual 2-ton (24,000 BTU) Carrier 13 SEER units (one for the 1st floor and one for the 2nd floor), both of which had Copeland-Scrolls. The house was built in 2007 and they sold it in 2016. We live less than 8 miles from the old house and I still go there fairly often. Both units are still there 15 years later!

Our current house was built in 2015-2016 and has 2.5-ton unit for the first floor and a 2-ton unit for the second floor. Both of them are Goodmans, and I do not blame this on the brand name, but my room is rather hot at times because of the shitty flex duct up in the attic; I personally believe that the house would benefit from having a 2.5-ton unit rather than a 2-ton, and as soon as the upstairs unit dies, I'm gonna convince my dad to get a 2.5-ton. Luckily, I have a $500 portable unit that I got for free from a friend who was moving, and that gets my bedroom as low as 59 degrees!
