Any reason I couldn’t wire it as-is with the earth and neutral bonded together? I don’t mind changing the receptacle, it’s just I have to go change the EV charger plug and the welder plug too since they’re all NEMA 10-30.

    You probably could.*

*(this is not electrical install advice, consult a local licensed and qualified installer).

I'd really have to dive into the schematics to understand what risk this really poses since you are going to have this install on wheels with no equipment grounding conductor. This means that the neutral voltage will be conducted to the equipment frame. You touching the oven would create a parallel path to ground. Simply put, you may or may not get a shock when you operate the oven depending on what metal parts you are touching and how conductive you are to ground.

So definitely go for the 14-30 with the independent ground and neutral. OK, that sounds like a safer plan.

Now you’ve got me concerned about my other appliances haha. The air compressor and my welder still use the 10-30 with no ground, only neutral.

Again, not everything calls for a grounding conductor, hence the advent of the plugs/receptacles that don't include grounds and only have neutrals. Really depends on each device and manufacturer recommendations. The whip you have pictured looks to be a home made contraption and not a manufacturer implementation (hence why an installation manual or instruction should be consulted). I would take a closer look at where the whip you pictured enters the range itself and disregard the previous install all together.

I am fairly certain that’s the OEM whip that’s attached, but I’ll have to dig deep into the oven to see where that ground goes. I’ll bet it just grounds the whole metal chassis.

Took a closer look at the schematic. You’re right that it doesn’t have the ground identified on it with the other wires.

Agreed, but also calls out a ground reference in other locations...

I noticed that too. I thought it was weird they wouldn’t include it on the same “bundle” as the other power supply wires on the schematic.

I’ll figure it out. I guess it doesn’t hurt to have a ground wire, no?

Thanks for your help. You’ve gone above and beyond.

No worries. Again, I'd look at where that whip goes into the range. Not many appliances come with a flex whip like that and it's likely field installed. The connections in the unit will likely give you what you need.

That said, I'll stop jamming up the responses here. Shoot me a PM or hit up the usual folks for additional info. It really shouldn't be too difficult.

I remember all the water we got in Tampa when Hurricane Andrew hit south FL. This is going to be something else.

Couple of my coworkers are from Florida and expect to be getting back right when that hits. They’re very much not thrilled.

    Tampa is gonna get trashed.

Gonna get new tires soon for my new wheels. Considering Cooper Discoverer AT/3 or BFGoodrich All Terrain T/A KO2 in 235/85/r16.
