Young kid with 10k bonus, I'm not sure how they divvy that out. I can speak for the USAF that we typically get half up front and the other half over the course of the enlistment yearly. With that said, guide him to be wise with that money and show him how he can turn that 10k into 50k by investing wisely. Since he'll be in the Blended Retirement System, tell him to switch it over to a Roth as soon as he is able and increase his match to the max since by default it is traditional match. Tell him to avoid the off-base dealerships since 24% APR on that 87 IROC-Z is lookin mighty fine. Tell him to set aside 5% of his base pay for retirement on top of his max contribution to the BRS, myPay can set that up for him easy as a click of a button. Divest into stocks, especially now since the market is spiraling. Just imagine how much he can make when the market rebounds. I couldn't get over my fear of open water to enlist in the navy so I went USAF instead, best decision of my life, 4 years from retirement eligibility.

Yeah he gets the full 10 g's upon graduating boot camp. But the money is already set up to go into a savings account where he can't touch it unless I sign off on it and then the rest of his pay money goes into two separate accounts. One checking and that same savings where he can't touch it

 

Tell him DO NOT impregnate and/or marry the first girl he meets either...keep it in his pants, otherwise he's in for a world of hurt for the next 18yrs.

I may be wrong but in my day sailors couldn't make PO3 (E-4) without passing the requisite exams.

 

Yea shit has changed . Since he did 4 years ROTC that's an automatic E3 after boot camp and they said if he excels in the A and C class school like he did on his ASVAB and everything else so far that he would be E4. It's the new military lol

 

Hey man I think it's great. The only benefit for getting paid peanuts is it being cheaper to buy back that time for my pension

When I left the store this am.....was checking out and the watches started hitting phones. I saw the panic hit...was glad I was on my way out with just dinner for the rest of the week. Prolly panicked people for sure now. Crazy! Have had my prep stuff since mid may.....whatever....

 

Rookie. I have had my prep stuff since Covid started. Rotated it out of course. I predict we can last 3 months before we don’t want to live anymore

 

I used to rotate it out. Then I got tired of it just sitting there......or we would take it for camp. But, I always have some crap I can toss together if needed. So my storm box is more like treats? IDK.........hahahahaha

I used to go watch these fools. Amazes me what they will put in the cart. And this was before these auto on generators were a thing. They get to the checkout line and I would ask them what they are gonna do with that stuff when the power goes out. LOL Priceless!
