The 5th amendment has made a LOT of inevitable felonies go away.

 

No doubt. But they purportedly bought them on the internet. The internet can't plead the fizif....

 

You obviously don’t know some of the ridiculous things that go on in the military.

I got that. The no plead the 5th on the internet is what doesn’t make sense.
Children, weapons, drugs etc are trafficked in the US via the internet indiscriminately.

The fact is, a crime committed on the internet does not necessarily equal a slam dunk case for the government. It behoves anyone, innocent or guilty, to not help the government build a case against you.

That should just be common sense.

Something that happens quite a lot actually, especially with people who think they are smart enough to talk their way out of an investigation.

Diversified Machine couldn't plead the fifth.

 

Yeah, it’s hard to plead the 5th, when you enter a guilty plea. Haha

Christopher J. Ridenour who was “diversified machines” plead guilty to conspiracy to manufacture and deal silencers.

 

He's dead as of last week also.

 

Sadly committed suicide day before sentencing. Drove his truck into the wilderness and ran his exhaust into the cab.

 

Damn.

 

Yup, all for selling hollow stainless steel tubes while it was legal.

 

He plead guilty because he sold silencers to an undercover agent, and they got all of his paypal records of everything he sold.

 

Oversimplification of what happened, but whatever. I don't think he would have liked the Randy Weaver precedent.

 

That’s still not grounds for a slam dunk case, and that’s still a bad example of “not getting to plead the 5th.”

Law ins and outs are more complicated than that. I understand there was some shadiness in the ATF redefining things in this case specifically, but sticking to the what we were talking about, and to avoid talking out the ass about a case with a 16 page indictment….remaining silent, getting a lawyer, and not helping them build a case against you is a sound advice.

Also, skimming through the indictment, it seems this was more about the manufacturing of silencers (without a FFL) then the actual sales of it.
