I’d say no. That’s one in 500 blown engines. Seems like a bad stat to me.

Or did I miss the implication?

Really? What should it be? One in a thousand (lightning strike) one in 10000( hole in one for amateur) so what should it be to satisfy you?

Pros and Cons. Cost of living is very high. Weather is very good. Nice scenery. You’re in Maple Ridge IIRC? I grew up in Coquitlam.

Tuff to say what it should be, we need data on what other engines and manufactures failure rate is to know what is "good". Not even toyota knows for sure because I wouldn't think they track that on out of warranty vehicles. Same probably goes for most companies. I does feel "right" that I have a higher chance of a mechanical breakdown than getting struck by lightning though.

Lol me too. In manufacturing, one in a million only works for simple parts. The Tacoma has several thousand parts and that is why the odds come down.
It eventually becomes a mathematical exercise. One in 500, only after X miles, is good for me.
Really all I want to do is equal the actuary tables lol.

Cost of living is high?:) Im in north surrey, my shoebox condo is half a mil… But yeah, last few years prices on the island really climbed. My mom owns couple properties in cowichan bay.

I wanted to buy a house in maple ridge but couldn’t afford it.

Coquitlam is awesome but unaffordable for me. What made you move?

I was offered a transfer at work to help get a new telecom service up and running on the island, training and mentoring guys etc. This was 2010. Since then houses are up 300% +

We had a good thing going for a while, then the secret got out and people cashed out of their lower mainland properties and bought houses here mortgage free.

Quick google search seems that 1 in 100 is “good” engine failure rate, top rated are 1 in 150-200. Food for pointless thought :D

It’s a good question, and I was only proposing that in my opinion, an early blown engine in 1 out of 500 seems to be too high. Somewhere between 1 in a 1000, and 1 in 10k.

But heck, maybe my expectations are too high. Perhaps 0.2% is actually pretty spot on. Just going with what my gut tells me.

My logic went like this: 1 in a 100? I’m not going to buy that vehicle if I knew it. One fifth of that? Probably not, but that’s on the edge of the right order of magnitude.

I guess I’ve been lucky, my Toyotas have never let me down beyond expected wear and tear.

Well, uninformed me learned something today. I’ll be honest, 1 in a 100 surprises me.
