Yeah, but everyone knows that 90% of statistics are right only 75% of the time. So, we got that going for us.

quick google search on my part didn't show this. Just a bunch of top 10 articles, how did these people get data, 100 in 1 seems way to low to be good.

Search car engine failure rates. There are plenty of articles from various years

No real data there, several articles stated 1:171 for Toyota with no indication of were that number came from. Toyota is the only one who knows.

Yes, Toyota lies. And they chose 1:171 so they could be less than half as good as Hondas 1:344
Point is, you aren’t finding anything significantly better than whatever their “actual” failure rate is.

So let's flip the context here; the truck has a 99.8% chance of not blowing the motor. Is that good enough? If you were told you had a 99.8% chance on anything good, would you risk it?

    Examples:

    1. There's a 99.8% chance your wife/GF won't cheat on you. Acceptable?
    2. There's a 99.8% chance you'll win the raffle for X prize. Do you buy a ticket?
    3. There's a 99.8% chance you'll get the job. Do you apply?
    4. There's a 99.8% chance you're food is going to be amazing at the restaurant on the corner. Do you order?

    Bonus protein! :hungry:

The number is hypothetical anyway. If there were really 1 in 500 failing I think there'd be a much bigger fuss about it. I also wonder how many of the failures were on trucks that have been modified. I know Subies got a bum rep for problems that flat brim vape-tards caused themselves, so I am cautious to demonize without better data.

I'd like to play a game here. Let's go with example number one. 99.8% chance your wife/GF is faithful. Would you date/marry her?

Toyota owners suffer from a pre conceived notion that nothing should ever break because it’s a Toyota. When in reality any vehicle with hundreds of moving parts has the potential to have a problem eventually. Look at Jeep owners on the other hand. They know their cheaply made fiat/Chrysler product will have major issues before any significant mileage. Yet they bitch less than Toyota owners and generally seem happier. It’s all about expectations.

TRUTH! It's the whole "1st world problems" thing. When things are really good we have to look for something to whine about. Doesn't matter that people are in worse spots with bigger problems and are happier, our problems are so much more of an issue. Life and death even! *clutches pearls*

Not making rules. Asking a question to draw a comparison.
