Natural oak. The wife got it for free, the lady had let it sit on her exposed front porch for the last 7 years, so I had a bunch of cracks to fill in the top. It's also the reason the top is warped so bad.

Made this for a friend's wedding, and had a buddy lasercut the snowflakes. Background is oak/cherry/maple, trim is maple. Bottom trim is removable, so we can slide the plexiglass out later and rearrange the snowflakes so they're all upright. I'd router'ed two slots in to the top of the frame, if I did it again I'd do three, so the flakes didn't all end up concentrated on one end.

First dowels are going in. Do you always use glue? I was planning to, but these things are in really tight!!

Yes to the glue. Never forget, wood moves.

Yes, glue is a lubricant, but also causes wood to swell quickly. Firm slipfit is the best way I know to describe the 4 thousandth of a inch clearance we shoot for.

That's where a soft faced hammer comes in handy. Sometimes it needs a gentle persuasion. Also, Hide glue won't make the wood swell like regulat wood glue. It acts like a lubricant as well and gives you a longer open time.

I am looking for recommendations for a corded palm sander that is as quiet as possible. Sometimes I work late into the night in the basement and I am trying to minimize loud noises so I do not disturb the rest of the family upstairs. I know, palm sander and quiet don’t play well together.

The quietest one I have is a Festool ETS 125. It's a little over $200 but it's also the finest sander I've ever owned.

    :rofl:I appreciate humor....and I actually own a sanding block like that....somewhere.:pout:

I figured the name Festool would come up. I like owning quality tools...I am just not sure that $200 is in the budget.:notsure:

Wait till you step up to the Festool ETS EC 125. That one is double the price. That whole brushless thing costs a bit, worth it though.
