What’s the maximum amount of travel in the front you can push on a 1st gen Tacoma while retaining 4wd??

The widest long travel kit I've seen is a +3.5" (per side). That gives you 13″-14″ of usable travel on each side using ~8" coilovers.

Naturally, if you went wider, you could get even more travel and still maintain the necessary angles on the CVs to support 4WD. But you'd have to find an even wider kit/have one made, and get wider CVs, etc.

The solo xlt kit for the tacoma will pull 18" of travel while still maintaining 4wd, the 2wd pulls 21 or so.

Wow, so much more than the MCM kit (where I pulled my numbers; figured they were all the same). That surprises me. Do you know why?

Edit: I see now that this is a +4.5" kit vs. the "usual" +3.5 (or +2). Didn't realize they had a +4.5". Nice.

This what you're going with when you convert?

Nah, its overkill for how I use the truck, can't justify the nearly 7k difference between kits. Plus then I'd have to make a rear that can cycle more too and I'd end up spending even more. It's a fun idea but a 1st gen taco is the wrong truck for it.
