    Good day!

I have a 2011 Taco supercab v6 4x4. I just finished driving across the country and paid insane prices for hotel rooms along the way. I was thinking back in the 1980s (yes I am 60 years old) and recall seeing small little campers like this one in the pic
    upload_2022-9-28_11-50-51.jpg
They were awesome for just sleeping in. They were sealed and insulated with a proper door in the back. They were light and low so as to not cause wind blockage.

Ive looked on the web for something similar that would fit in the taco but nothing even comes close. Is there a camper out there that matches this?

    1. Must be sealed and insulated with proper door.
    2. must NOT extend more than 6 or 8 inches higher than cab of truck.

    This link didnt work

No these hard shells are not is, what you are showing are just the shells, They used to make a camper like the one in pic that was the "size" of a hard shell but was a camper (insulated and had beds) and basically a slide in camper but no high top, no toilet, fridge or anything else... just a slide in camper with beds

Interesting. It won't me put the link. I just searched "tacoma camper shell" and got a bunch of hits. Taco Tuesday: 8 Truck Bed Toppers was the one I was trying to link.

I remember the small shells like you are referring to, aluminum outside with paneling inside and crank out jalousie windows.
Back then Ford, Chev and Dodge all took the same cap, not so anymore.
You might find a suitable cap with door and build the bunk yourself.

@Steves104x4 has one with a door.

Probably the closest thing you’ll find these days is from Bel Air Shells in SoCal: www.belairshells.com

They aren’t a full camper, but you could always build out your bed yourself.
