Drove back up to the Lochsa this weekend and slammed about 80 of these guys over Saturday and this AM. Great stuff. Only fell in once! How's the tubbing going Zane?

 

Posting that pic in the daily thread reminded me -

did you ever hear any news on Morrison this year, Monte? Hoping there's been some progress on reopening it.

 

One more big climb for the summer! Mt. Owen, 847 ft shorter than the grand, but way more technical and way less traveled. 17 hours car to car, 5 raps getting down. I was definitely above my pay grade on this one, and I dont think I want to flash 5.4 climbs solo any more lol. Compared to Owen the Grand was a walk in the park. Not a soul up there, which added to the mental strain, the easiest ledge and chimney to the top was covered in snow and ice, so i was kicking ice chunks out of foot holds with 1000 ft of exposure below lol. Another chimney (also full of ice) hang fired icicles at me in the morning, then was a full on waterfall on the rap down. Physically, it was fun/fine climbing and i feel pretty good after a 17 hr day, but that was really hard mentally. A little too much time in the "do or die" state of mind lol.

Very nice.

It's not as tall, but I think you would enjoy running around the San Rafael Swell and climbing these along the way... probably a cake walk for you, but a fun route/shape.

Not a great source but saw comments that the FS was telling local 4x4 clubs it'll be a few years. Not sure if it's reliable but would make sense. Curious what changes they will make to it.

im not shitting you, i followed a mountain goat half way up that thing. I kept seeing tracks that i thought was a climbers path, and it turned out to be hoof prints lol.

 

Closed indefinitely.

They were hoping to having it open this year to clear the boulders from the switch backs, but then the flood took out like 80% of the road or something crazy in the canyon.

They aren't touching it until maybe next year at the earliest. Likely local clubs will have to step in and help to some point. Top section is still open until the gate.


So if we are lucky next year work will happen. But could be 2 years. If we get enough movement like they did for the Mckelvy trail or whatever then it should get done. I think once a cry for funds/help happens a lot of money will pour in and volunteers. Trail is famous enough and the locals love it too much.

 

Well, hopefully progress is made.

I need another excuse to bring the 1st gen back up that way, being I'm not sure I could get the 2nd gen up Mckelvy.

 

yeah i've got a few others that look fun that would be fun I think in the 1st gen.

I know Independance is do able now. Sort of. Might try and run that before the snow falls once I finally catch a break and have more than half a day off.
