    Hello,

Have a 2017 TRD Off-Road and took it in for an oil change and brakes at a local mechanic. Truck has been flawless until today. They noticed a leak around the rear main seal. Upon further investigation I have a bit of oil on the ground in my parking space too.

I purchased a Toyota Platinum Care warranty to 125k from the guy out on the east coast that sells all the warranties.

Truck will be going to the dealer tomorrow for that, frame recall and some other minor recalls. I will update thread when I find out what they're going to do.

Is there anything else besides power steering pump, timing cover that I should ask them about while I'm in there? I'd like to get this truck sorted out before it's out of warranty.

Thanks for all the knowledge here

Replace/clean your engine pcv. Mine froze closed one time & spit oil out my rear main.

Have them check the plastic coolant Y-pipe at the back of the engine. It is known to leak and is expensive to correct. If its leaking there will be crusted pink coolant towards the bottom back of the engine.

    Interested to hear the outcome.
Older engines that I've had with Rear Main Leaks, a replacement seal doesn't always cure the problem due to Main Bearing wear.

Did it stop leaking after you serviced it? or did it still require the seal?

Frozen PCV's usually physically push the rear mains out. It's very rare. I've seen it twice. Last one was a tundra 5.7

Hopefully they re-seal the plate as well, the plate and seal usually leak together.

mine sealed back up the following day.
I’m about to put a new one in before winter arrives. My truck has 289k on it. Pcv is $7 from Toyota.

+1 on clean/replace PCV. Many oil leaks are caused by stuck PCVs.

Yep. Way too cheap and way to easy to NOT replace this part every 25k miles.

Drivers side of the engine towards the back. Look for a YouTube video that installs an oil catch can. The can will connect to the PVC.

The PVC isn’t as accessible as your gas cap or engine oil cap but its fairly easy for a DIY’r.
