That's a horrible idea. What time?
I read reviews and compared features on all three. Unless you plan on frequently using the winch, most people don't need a Warn. They are purposefully overbuilt to be abused and use commonly available parts to rebuild when needed.

Ironman is built by the crazy Aussies. Some of the features are things I never hope to use, like the ability to use it under water if things really get sideways. It also has a breather tube that evacuates heat which let's it operate longer (and under water). I also was able to get a higher capacity than HF offers for my bumper rating (9500 pounds), and 90 foot synthetic rope.

I think I’m settled on either the superwinch sx12sr or the or the warn vr evo12s. The superwinch has some nicer pieces and fits my color scheme better but the warn is a warn.

Since my bumper is going to cost around $300 I can spend a little more on a winch. I like the lighter weight of those winches.

I think you'd be fine with something cheaper. It's not a part you'll use very often so you won't need the best. Heck, I used mine more for pulling stumps then vehicles. And there were zero issues. The ironman was $700 or so for a 12k lb synthetic rope. Wireless controller with a built in light and completely submersible. Can't beat it.

I agree with Dave on this. It's not something that you're going to need to use a lot. And the 12k Ironman with a 90 foot synthetic rope weighs a whopping 64 pounds. And its black, so it matches your truck. With green lettering. You mentioned green wheels at one point didn't you? If not, you should.

Semi serious question here. Last time out I had an idler pulley making noise (according to Dave, because I don't know :anonymous:). It went away (as Dave said it would. Who's the smart one now?) It came back, the sound anyway, but only when I use the clutch. I thought about not using the clutch, but 5000 miles in second gear (third with down hill start) doesn't sound like much fun. So the question, would an idler pulley make intermittent noise when the clutch is used? That's the only time I hear it. Could it be something else that sounds like the idler pulley?

Without hearing the noise or whatever, it could be a throw out bearing.

It also could still be the idler pulley making noise when you're increasing and decreasing the load on the motor; even in neutral.

If it only comes with the clutch depressed I would agree with Dave on it being a throw out bearing.

OK, so I looked it up. I don't need that repair right now. How big a job is that to do? Do you do just the bearing or the plate as well? The noise in the video was more or a grinding than a squeal, but I guess that would change at greater speeds. I'm going to WD the pulley's and go for a drive tomorrow.

Transmission and transfer case will have to be dropped. Just the bearing should be enough, I believe.

So if the WD40 test fails, is there anyone who could help me with this? I don't have a grand to drop at the dealership or anywhere else right now.

I agree with Dave that you will probably only need the throw out bearing, BUT. If you are going to pull the trans, might as well replace the clutch and pilot bushing as well. You have a lot of miles on your truck right?

Also I would not recommend trying to spray wd-40 on your throw out bearing
