Wait, what solutions have been offered? In other threads? Aftermarket tow controller? Is there any other option?

So, Caribe, it’s a different body harness without the tow?

OP I have the 7/4 OEM connector.

What we need is the controller portion or access to the combined brake + turn signals if the controller is integrated.

Caribe, did you have a proposal here that I missed? Possibly in those other threads but all I saw was using a Curt. Which is how I’m doing things on the Tundra so I don’t need to read up any more.

I’m mostly curious if there is any 12v power to feed as input and/or brake controller output worth attempting to use. Or if that’s all totally not present and it’s a build from scratch plan.

My ‘02 Tundra appears to have a way to inject power into the connector feeding the controller. I’m running a Curt myself since I can’t seem to find an OEM controller but. I didn’t have to run extra power to the rear. I will have to do the brake controller output though so I think I’ll likely run my own fused power for towing so I can use 10 or maybe even 8 gauge.

Unfortunately, to the rear of the vehicle it is.

The '02 Tundra uses a towing converter for Stop & Turn and add the Tail circuit to the harness going to the rear bumper. Trailer Battery charger and electrical towing break are separate circuits and the engine bay, then to harness to rear bumper, like 2nd Gen Tacoma.

K, so the only viable plan is something like:

7/4 OEM connector (I have one)

1 brake controller lead to the driver kick panel, mostly optional unless a brake controller is required then it’s necessary.
1 fused power lead to the engine bay. Second fused power from engine to cab for brake controller unless there is a good way to go already?
Tap reverse directly with reverse T
    Buy Curt powered controller
Set of turn T’s to get L and R
Full brake T to get Stop and Park
    Connect and loom everything.

Overall it’s more work than I would take on at this point in time. Upwards of $200 as I see it. I’d probably quote it at $350 shipped. Then OP still has to install the thing which is nonzero work.

DIY solder and heat shrink or heat shrink butt connectors can save all the cost aside from parts. Get it down to about $100 plus time, maybe 1-2 days?

could do just the flat 4 off an unpowered converter for a cheaper solution, buy a pair of tail T’s, a brake T and a reverse T, still in about $200 in parts plus assembly time.

    no great options

OP needs to verify that his Taco has this connector. It's the connector that provides combined stop & turn, tail & ground (4 pin trailer connector)

Thanks Caribe. Yeah that’s a huge step forward if it’s there. Tap that for brake and turn and we skip the controller BS and we just need aux power and a bunch of wire.

We would need the mating connector but I’m guessing you might have that somewhere?
