So tonight I was slowing down to a stop light when a woman pulled put of a gas station across the road. She crossed two lanes of traffic, a turn lane, and into the side of my bed. She drilled the rear tire, taking a chunk out of it. By some miracle missed the cab and rear bumper, only hitting my tire and not even the bedside. +2 for 3in lift and 33s.

Obviously the wheel has to be replaced, but should I tell my mechanic to check anything else? Like I said, she couldn't have been going more than 10mph at impact after finally seeing me and slamming her breaks. She admitted fault immediately to myself and the police.

Valve stem is gone and you can see the inside of the tube through the chunk in the rim that she excavated. I was able to drive it about 10 miles home without issue and didn't hear any odd noises.

Pics of the damage and rear axle. Should I try for new tires too? Anything with my brakes or diff that would be telltale signs of damage? I'm going to look in the daylight tomorrow to get a better picture of everything. I honestly don't see much with just my flashlight.

Put it on some jack stands, then have a trusted bud put it gear and get the wheel spinning to see if it is bent. if you detect wobble switch wheels with other side to rule out bent axle flange.

Yeah good idea. My buddy has a small shop so I'm hopefully going to get it up on a lift tomorrow.

I would call my insurance and tell them what happened, let them inspect my vehicle and file on her insurance.

Assuming she had insurance, I'd let Toyota do an in-depth examination of the possibility of hidden damage on her insurance's cost. Accept nothing less than total satisfaction.

At the minimum, have insurance (or you i suppose) get an alignment check. If it's out of spec and it was fine prior, you might have something bent that you can't see with just your eye. Good luck

Yeah that's the plan. The thing I'm most worried about is if the diff gears sheared at all from the impact. She hit me almost perfectly head on to the center of the tire. Honestly, I think all the rubber that I have back there may have saved me and absorbed most of the impact so hopefully, mechanically speaking, everything is fine.

I think your truck will be fine OP, but I agree to let the insurance process play out. Good luck!

Nothing to add that hasn't already been said, but I will say that is the bead you can see. Car's dont have tubes in their tires.

    Must be a bike guy.

Let her insurance inspect it and they will give you an estimate. My truck was hit in a similar situation, but in the front. The estimate was $7200. I had it fixed by Toyota and the cost was a little over $10,600. Her insurance paid for it all (you can have it fixed wherever you want, you do not have to go to the lowest bidder). The insurance has to pay to have your truck back like it was before the accident. I also received a diminished value claim for loss of trade in value. My truck looks like nothing ever happen to it. Good luck and sorry you have to go through this, I know it is a hassle.

My truck was torpedoed into the right rear wheel at 30-35 mph on the round bound.
Replaced the wheel, tire and fixed the dent. The were no bed cracks, the axle stayed in the position.
    Nothing to worry about..

Yeah I'm hoping it's all cosmetic...

I know, the hub and bearing seem like they could be the most potentially effected by the impact.

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. It ain't worth money but it means a lot to me psychologically. My taco is my baby, pride, and joy lol.
