Yeah, been a few times and I agree, the bench was pretty uncomfortable.

last time I was there it was a shit show, a dad and his teenage son were turning around from the firing line and flagging everyone with their barrels and the dad was always yelling at the son over stupid shit. I was sitting at the picnic table with stuff cased and RSO came over and said someone was complaining about me flagging someone and I was like, nah, I don't think that was me and he said something like "yeah doesn't look like it" and we both turned around in time to see the dude flagging us with a pistol lol

CPW is such a sham. They allowed for a virtual line to form online this year before leftovers even went on sale, instead of resetting once 0900 hit. Kudos to any of the diehards that hopped on hours before to hold their place. I thought 30min would be early enough, but everything was already cleaned out by the time I was let in. Something has to change with this system if there's going to be any uniformity/fairness to the virtual purchase platform.

Parks has totally screwed the system up. CDOW made a profit every year, the system worked. Since Parks has taken over, they are showing a loss every year, nothing works.

I was hoping to snag a leftover buck tag to have in my pocket during OTC archery elk. I'm still hunting, just not the hunt I'd like this year is all.

The system gets harder to land a tag each year. Not to mention they say 65% of draws are allocated for residents yet you see a dad, son and their brother from out of state all with tags in the same unit... When it's 10 times the cost why wouldn't they skew that number in favor of out of state folks

I should just learn to bow hunt better and hoof it deep enough I'd be away from people. It'll be a huge trek out but at least I don't want have to worry about the schmucks I've encountered during rifle season

Jokes on you. The yahoo's are still out there during archery season, OTC or Draw unit. OnX changed everything imo.

Hey all, I'm looking for 12 gauge shotgun recommendations for hunting waterfowl and for general clay sporting purposes.

Looking for something mid-tier. Maybe $500-800 range like the Benelli Nova/SuperNova. I'd like to avoid Remington 870's/Mossberg 500's. They seem like good cheap options but not very durable/have QC issues.

    Thanks in advance!

I'd go with the basic stoger, beretta, or franchi auto for that price range.

You bring up a good point. I assumed pump was the way to go for both reliability and sporting reasons. Why do you recommend a semi-auto?

I hunt with people who only use pump for that reason. I personally use SA. I would be lying to you if I said I have never had a malfunction of some sort.

You can't go wrong with a Benelli Super Nova. If you can find an old Winchester 1300, that's also a very
    good pump

If you go semi, I like the Franchi Affinity at that price point

Also if you ever get a 3.5 inch chamber pump, it will never have issues cycling lighter loads, but have the option to shoot 3.5 (which in my opinion is never necessary). 3.5" SA sometimes have issues cycling lighter loads if brand new or dirty

I get wanting a SA but you just listed 2 of the most reliable shotguns on the planet and mentioned durability and QC issues

Mossberg 500’s seem be notorious for breaking trigger groups (Hence the 590 A1) and with Remington 870’s it seems to be a gamble on when your gun was made. As I understand it, Remington went under new management and QC took a nosedive but has steadily increased in recent years.

My buddy in NC took a defensive shotgun class and said every single 870 suffered malfunctions. Anecdotal certainly.

If you like those guns I’m happy to hear why you’d recommend them. I came here for y’all’s advice!

I think those decent SA are just as reliable, if not more so, then a pump. :notsure:

Speaking of shitty Remingtons, I've got an 887 I'll trade for a case of banquet. I think it might have more value as a canoe paddle than a shotgun though. It's serious the worst gun I've ever experienced. All the different kinds of jamming and shells not ejecting, don't even try to shoot Winchester waterfowl loads through it, it won't set off the primer, etc. etc. No wonder Remington went bankrupt.
