Heck, let's apply the hypothetical failure percentage to a million trucks. 1,000,000 x .002 = 2,000 total engine failures.

If there were 1,000,000 third gen Tacos for sale, and you knew that 2,000 of them would have an engine failure at some point in their life, which color would you buy?

    If only...

Don't get me wrong, the good ones are amazing. Life changing. The mediocre ones are a lesson in misery, and the bad ones..... well, they'll destroy you.

Some generalizations here. A number of social media personalities with 3rd gen's that have beat the piss flaps out of them have not had catastrophic engine failures. A number of folks with aftermarket tunes with no issues. Folks reporting long OCI and countless YT videos of folks taking these trucks out on very challenging trails and pounding them regularly. I guess time will tell with the 3rd gen. Overall, the third gen, in my opinion, is as good or even a little better than any Toyota product out on the road these days. It's also hugely popular. This means there should be lots on the road in the years to come. All for the most part still running strong. Let's check back in 10 more years from now and see where we are at. Until then enjoy your ride no mater what Gen you own.

Yes I would if I loved her. Given the historical odds of the marriage even lasting are at about 50%, I'll take those 99.8% odds for sure.

See, that's why I did it simple, but when it's simple somebody wants to be an obstructionist because it wasn't idiot proof simple.

    Readers,
I appreciate the PM's thanking me for this thread. Glad to help put this truck and the complaint volume into perspective.

The truth is you have no clue how many people have issues. You can speculate over and over again about small percentages but you have ZERO idea of realistic numbers.

Not everyone that has an issue creates and account on here to post about it.

Think about how many people that purchase a Tacoma that have zero idea internet forums like this even exists.

This is what happens when 3rd gen guys ride the reliability coat tails of the 1st and 2nd gen trucks.

Its funny the excuses people come up with when the see a thread about another blown up 3rd gen. The pull out every excuse other than the fact that some of these engines have internal defects.

When the 1st gen failed, 0% were reported on this forum because it didn't exist. Same thing with the early 2nd gen, and even after this site was created, there were fewer users to report engine failures.

Using self-reported data based on a forum is a terrible way to predict reliability.

Talk about speculation... What proof do you have the 1st/2nd gens are more reliable?
