Yesterday morning when I woke up, I saw that, Toyota app notification alerted me sonar, adaptive cruise control module malfunctioned at 3 am. That's odd I thought, until I walked out . The truck (4Runner)'s gone.

I used the Toyota Safety Connect app and drove to the last broadcasted GPS signal. It's like 40 miles from me on a country highway. Along the highway are heavily wooded private property, pretty sketchy, littered with abandoned cars, washing machines, trailers.

I called 911, saying I use GPS to track down my stolen truck to somewhere in the woods but I don't want to go in there by myself, it's private property most likely. The dispatcher told me to wait for deputies. I waited for 1.5 hours, called again, told me to continue to wait as deputies were responding to other high priority calls. I waited for another hour, it's getting dark, nobody showed up. I got the feeling that I might have been played and called 911 telling them it's getting dark I don't feel safe hanging out on the highway there and left.

What frustrates me is that I even tracked down the exact location and police didn't even bother to come quickly to bust the thieves den.

What good is Toyota Safety Connect good for then? Average Joe like me ain't gonna waltz in there, and I know being a police officer is a dangerous job, and I understand if there's any hesitation of risking one's life for a piece of property that's insured anyway. I don't blame them for not showing up when true danger looms.

My takeaway from this: have comprehensive coverage, and install kill switch in the future. Don't just assume GPS can help get your truck. And stop watching police crime TV shows, real world ain't anything like that.

In my mind I was hoping SWAT, K-9 and helicopter would surround that area and raid the whole place.
The reality was that I had to hold my bladder for almost 4 hours in the middle of nowhere, constantly checking the rear view mirror and getting excited when every Ford Explorer approaching and disappointed immediately after they passed me by.

I checked police report online this morning, sent that link to insurance, insurance already know the GPS, so do the police

    It's up to them now

What's your insurance company saying about the situation?

Also, agreed that's a pathetic response from police. I'm surprised they didn't tell you it's a civil matter.

normal flow, if recovered, they'll pay for damages done to the truck
if not recovered, cut me a check for the actual cash value of the truck

    Oh look, another mod....
If you knew the exact location, why didn't you hop in and drive it away yourself? Worry about the police not doing their job another time.

That sucks. If I ever need cops to show up fast in a situation like that, I'll get em there fast. Someone will be calling in shots fired.

sorry to hear man but you got to understand from the police standpoint they are probably out dealing with other crimes that might be more serious like guys shooting up apartment buildings and such. I hope you get the truck back un damaged!!!

Oof. My deductible is $0 for comprehensive so I can’t complain.

    4 run, 2 don't
I was looking for this comment; comprehensive at $0 deductible stupid cheap to get!

    I don't even think they allow a deductible at $500 even....but $2k holy shit.

I didn't wanna potentially get shot there, it's Texas, and private property all that, place is heavy wooded and I couldn't even see the truck from the side of the highway.

Now that I have an idea, probably next time this happen, I'll bring a drone and do some recon

Why don't you get your friends and go over there to see your truck... if no damages done to it, then take some pictures and whereabouts then show these pictures to cops... so cops can take care of it when they are ready to go over there... If the truck gets damages, then take pictures and show to insurance.

Don't try to steal it back unless you have cops there with you so the cops will make the thief to give it back to you. If you try to steal it back, they have eyes on any movement on the property... if so, they may have guns or some kinds of weapons to hurt or kill you. Depends on who they are, they may plan to take the truck to the shipping container somewhere.

Hope cops are quick enough to get back to you before that happens.

After the 3rd call to the cops just tell them dont worry about the police just send a ambulance as you shot 2 of them. Cops would have been there in a few min. Sorry to hear about your truck.
