They are generally very good for the value if you like the base Maker's wheater profile. I've had some that punch way above their weight class.

I’m a wheated fan for sure so that’s the origin of interest. I don’t LOVE regular Makers but I do love the cask strength.

Oh no question then, if you love the CS then definitely give the PS a shot. I'm not kidding when I say I've had some that are absolute home runs. They were from private liquor stores whose owners made trips to pick barrels themselves... I'm not sure how ABC states do it. We're also government controlled here in Idaho and I have yet to try our PS bottles. Might have to do that now that you've got me thinking about them again.

So the process is allegedly that a barrel is selected and then 10 finishing staves are added to the barrel. There are a thousand permutations given the different stave combination to choose from. So, it’s not like a traditional barrel pick where you taste samples from a bunch of barrels, unless you’re picking from several predetermined stave combos. I thought the person ordering picks whatever custom stave combo they want, it’s finished for however many months and then bottles and delivered.

Kind of a mystery. I’d also like to know how these staves get into the barrel.

And maybe people taste barrels before the finishing and select them then. Who knows.

Idk i feel like it's kinda simple. The allocated bottles are mostly all cream-of-the-crop in their price range but not so outstanding at the next couple jumps in price range. The distilleries and distributors know this and want it to stay that way(possibly even planned for it). So they don't raise the prices and make a fuss about markups here and there. Because of that the bottles that make it around don't often get past the cashiers and stockboys if they even get that far
-and the blantons has even more going for it with the looks. Probably one of the coolest looking bottles in general. At msrp it's outstanding by a huge margin; none that come close within another $100 imo

This wasn’t the latest drawing. This was the last one or two ago. Can’t remember. Maybe they raised it on you. I now put no thanks on blantons hoping for something better.

There may be different ones. My store has a shelf space of them but they're like random from the distillery. Then there's ones like you mention that are hand picked by the store themselves

I've got the Single Barrel, just didn't know how the BiB tasted.

Also the barrel proof is kinda like the Select on crack, turned up to 11. It's so good! Since it's around $60 here, there's just no way I could justify overpaying for BT family products. In fact the BT 1L I got for $36, I just find it "eh it's ok". I haven't even opened the Blanton's 375ml yet.

It really all depends on how much you like heat. I couldn’t drink JDSBBS every time I have a bourbon. But now and then it hits the spot. Doesn’t mean I enjoy BT any less.

Here’s the bottle so you guys can see the stave allocation. It is motherfucking good. Based on your statement I went ahead and cracked it open for a small taste and I’m glad I did. Wow.

Did you have to show your AARP card to buy that? Do you automatically get a senior discount?

You know, I never understood senior discounts. They've had the most years to save and invest and are the wealthiest age group by far.

But yeah, show your AARP card or Social Security check to be eligible for purchase.
