The way I see it, if my retirement/investments (now) are not there or are not sustainable for retirement when I reach 60/65 - we have WAY bigger issues than me being able to afford my weekly pub trivia in retirement.

If you invest in the bonds, and the gov doesn't go bad, you earn.

if you invest in the bonds, and the gov goes haywire, you're f'd along with the rest of the world.

If you didn't invest in the bonds, and the gov goes haywire, you're f'd along with the rest of the world.

If you didn't invest in the bonds, and the goves doesn't go haywire, you missed out.

Either you earn, you miss out, or the entire world is f'd and it doesn't matter whether you invested or not.

Eh, they still have spending money and healthcare (for now, we talked about that earlier). I'm talking the bank servers are charred to a crisp and there are no hospitals. THAT'S the level where it doesn't matter if you invest or not, your F'd.

I just decided to not drive over 70mph and got 40-60 extra miles PER TANK...I also did my spark plugs....and now I want to see what happens this winter...can I still get good MPG on winter gas? We shall see...

 

Sure. If you haven't just had unprecedented QE for 12 years, then a global pandemic that bought even more QE and spending. All the historical data is skewed to a normal economy. We haven't been for quite some time. We are on our way to a double bottom on the DOW after it recovered 50% off it's lows from APR at 25K-ish. If we get that low and it doesn't bounce we are fucked. There's no history for that and it's gonna be bad. lol

Most of the bond markets are fun .gov ponzi schemes, and all of the leveraged ETFs that exist are broken down to their underlying securities so they can be shorted at will.
