This whole thread is crazy. If this was my truck I wouldn’t even attempt warranty. Once you modify anything like this on your drivetrain, if something fails it’s on you no matter what. I’ve played around doing stuff like this my whole life .it’s fun to play but sometime it doesn’t work out . The drive train is designed for a certain amount of power give or take a certain percentage. Once you exceed that percentage you run the risk of blowing something up. Tunes are the same way. You can easily toast a motor with a bad tune. Especially when your messing with timing and things like that .

Actually, I'm subscribed to this thread and very interested to see how this plays out for you. I have said my peace and won't bug you again. Please do us the favor of keeping us posted, though. Especially if you talk to lawyers and stuff. Also, how much money you spend fighting this (keeping in mind that the absolute upper limit should be the $6200, or cost of a new transmission).

I speak from the experience of having fought things with lawyers and spent more money on lawyers than if I had just paid the money and not fought at all.

Why not just have a shop rebuild it , you would be better off and with removal and install it should be less then 3500/4K

Because he wants a free transmission, not a rebuilt one.

Why exactly would one add a supercharger to a Tacoma?

Some folk buy vehicles with 235hp and think its not enough. These things are a really good , clumsy utility vehicle. Not high performance sport cars.
Im quite satisfied with my trucks performance. I wish it were better in the MPG dept. but its a truck. I knew that going into this thing of ours.

    Because they are painfully underpowered.

Yes I have honestly and i’ve even thought about doing it myself. I may pursue that route but I still am going to see this outcome not to the courts but just to a certain time

Whether you abused the vehicle or not, is completely irrelevant; the fact is, the engine puts out MUCH more power than the transmission was designed to handle; as others have said, lawyer up all you want, Toyota ain't buying you a new tranny.

Pedal Commander doesn't gain one ounce of extra oomph, so no, that won't void one's warranty.

Whoa. This is massively, massively incorrect. Quite nearly the opposite of fact. Except the first sentence. “You will lose” is certainly true unless you have unlimited funds for an attorney, and an enormous amount of patience.

Magnuson-Moss requires a manufacturer to prove that an aftermarket part (aka modification) was responsible for a defect in order to deny a warranty claim for the defect. It absolutely does NOT require staying stock.

But again, good luck enforcing this against an enormous multinational corporation with its herd of attorneys. I have heard of successes, but the expenditure in attorney fees was greater than the cost of repair.

I don’t think it’s underpowered at all. It’s a naturally aspirated v6 that has more power than my 5.7 liter formula firebird back in 1988 . At that time it had 225 Hp which was big back then . The Tacoma is totally fine . It’s a nice little fun truck that gets a bad rap for no reason in the power department. The reason it can feel sluggish sometimes is because of the throttle ratio to gas pedal. Combined with the trans shifting early . That’s it . Once you get into the throttle for a V6 the truck has nice power . It’s not a sports car , it’s not turbo charged ( yet ) . Turbo = torque everywhere . But with that you risk more problems and lots more maintenance.
I like my truck the way it is.

You do have another option if you still want to try and get reimbursed under warranty....

Look at the analogy like this...

Cop walks out the front door after looking at a dead body...

And you are standing on someone else's porch holding a big gun,

You're going to be sitting in a holding cell until it's proven you're innocent.

Very rarely will any of the dealers have a person qualified to tear down and diagnose a transmission...
and as many here will tell you are not interested/capable of real diagnostic testing a transmission.

So find a reputable transmission shop, pay for them to do a diagnosis and report.

It will probably be cheaper/faster in the long run to have them fix it while they have it all apart.
(or if it's a blatantly obvious issue that was not because of the SC and you want to go for a new transmission skip the repair step)

If their report can show the problem was something,
that would be very unlikely failing because of the supercharger,
and you have the failed components in hand...

Call Toyota Corporate, tell them about the dealer refusal,
open a case and submit a copy of the 3rd party report and let them know you have the "poor quality" components for them to review.
(if more than one ,keep a sample, at least take many pictures of them if they request you send them back to review)

So just like no judge would convict someone of holding a gun when the other person died by food poisoning,

Odds of them covering your cost, when you have proof, is now very high.
