    @malatx

I can sympathize with your situation, but I think you're better off with a new truck after this experience.

We had a leased 2017 SR5 4x4 4Runner that was nearly stolen from the driveway multiple times over the course of a few months. We pulled fuses (fuel pump, starter, ignition), disconnected the battery and used a pedal and steering wheel lock. I was temped to pull the wheels off and put it on jacks, but never did. They gave up and stole one of my neighbors cars instead and some guns from another neighbors unlocked truck. I later learned stolen 4Runners were being exported to Africa. Who would have thought?

Ironically, the first time we called 911 the operator suggested we go outside and talk to them and see what they wanted and the local police took 45 minutes to show up. We stopped calling after that and elected to enforce our second amendment rights. :quickdraw:

My insurance premiums are a complete rip for 2 vehicles with a clean driving record, but as you can tell I live in a high theft area. It's threads like these that really make me want to sell my house and move somewhere with some acreage. :hattip:

For reference, public and police can enter private property without permission all the way up to the front door, aka knock-and-talk, regardless of no trespassing signage.

I’m pretty sure I’m the great state, one can be shot without question for trespassing.

    edit
Of course if you just tell them you’re there to ask some questions about my truck that’s in your yard things might go better.

It's not trespassing, you apparently are not familiar with curtilage as it relates to the 4th amendment. You'd be charged for shooting USPS for delivering a package to your front door.

I had a friend lose a truck and he told me the insurance company waits 2 weeks until they cut a check but I’m guessing that depends on each insurance company. I am curious what mine is. Might have to call and ask.

Counterpoint: I don't intend to explain the finer points of curtilage when standing on the FOB of my neighborhood car racket.

You might be confused on how things work in Texas.

Of course not, a pamphlet slipped under the door could do that.

My county is over 500 square miles. Over 30 miles north to south and at times there are only 2-3 patrol cars in the county. The city will have one on just about every corner. We had a missing child situation at midnight and it took 30 minutes to get a car to respond. While this may have been a big deal to you, they truly may have had more important things to do.

I referring to a private citizen entering the property of another private citizen in Texas. You can be shot dead without warning. It is an extremely bad idea in rural Texas.

I am aware you don’t mess around on others property in Texas. I am in agreement with you. I was reading about curtilage extending to the points around your house as a portion of your private domain and fall under “castle law”. Also a state where anyone can openly carry, no?

If you can even see the house from the road, it’s not a place to go and ask what are you doing with my truck?

You’re better off not getting it back. I had my 2017 taco stolen out of our driveway. Cops found it upside down, missing a wheel, and trashed in the LA River. Insurance STILL wanted to fix it with “like kind parts”. Screeeeeew that. I told them I wasn’t taking that truck back and they agreed and totaled it for me. Got more than I paid for it and we used it for a down payment for a house. Let that thing go. Scheme up all your mods for the next one

Yes, open carry is legal in Texas but it is not prevalent. Concealed carry is much more prevalent.

So back to the original thread and OP’s actions, I recommended he stand down. I’m pretty sure he already broke the law with his drone.

All kinds of scenarios start to unfold if the drone operator was observed, photographed, etc.
