Quality of Tacoma in Mexico verses Texas built.

I was kind of making fun of someone that said something kind of funny that as well his comment got deleted.

 

Serious, at least somewhat serious question, has anyone looked at a possible correlation between different plants and manufacturing specs and why some trucks can run tires without rub vs some can't? Have read many posts stating varies by individual truck . Manufacturing location?

I picked up a 2022 Tacoma today. Exterior, everything appears fine but inside there was a spot of yellow paint on the headliner(??), lots of scuffs on the plastic trim, and after driving I realized that the backside of the top portion of leather on the steering wheel has 3 fine cuts that catch my fingers when the steering wheel returns to normal. I really enjoy the truck but all of these things do seem like quality control issues.

 

Just reading the latest for customer satisfaction for the 2022 vehicle brands. it was actually a little worse than a year ago. Toyota, and suburu were still rated above the rest.

 

It was definitely made in Mexico. Texas is only building ugly Tundra’s and Sequoia’s now. What an abomination.

 

I'd have to say out of all the new Toyota vehicles, the new Tundra currently has the WORST quality control from all the stories I've heard/seen. lol

 

Wouldn't shock me if those things happened at the dealership with a sloppy or poor PDI.

 

2022 Central Mexico TRD PRO. Zero issues. No scuffs, sheet metal gaps are all equal and perfect, feels tighter than a nun’s bun.

 

Mine came from Mexico. Aside from the current hook weld recall, a paint chip on my roof near the sunroof (could have been from transport), and loose plastic molding on top of window on passengers side, nothing else to note from almost a year of having the truck.

 

Mine came from Mexico. 22.5 K - zero problems or defects so far. Part of the trucks' design is for it to be easily and accurately assembled in a variety of plants around the world. So, yes, we'd all prefer a truck assembled in the LandCruiser factory in Japan, but that aside, Mexico vs US isn't so important.

Quality on my 2022 Pro seems good except the passenger side doors aren’t aligned properly. It’s more noticeable because of the lime green paint job. I’m taking it to the dealership this afternoon to see if they can adjust them. Anyone else had this problem?

 

Do you have a picture? How are they not aligned?

 

Does the door jamb label say Baja California or Guanajuato? The Guanajuato plant is new, so it is more likely to have these issues. (The Texas plant had similar issues in its first year.)

 

2020 TRD OR - no issues.

(I am sorry I know this one is old). I have a 2020 TRD OR that was pre-wired for bed lights, so that was nice. It was also pre-wired for a sunroof that doesn't exist (that fuse panel slot was hot, so I used it for my switch panel).

Oh no. The Japanese make is now building a truck in Mexico.

Setting up new assy lines regardless of the product will always be a disaster. You can plan all you want, but things will go amiss. Ford, Toyota, Kawasaki, Lego, whoever.

 

Mine was Guanajuato — I assume tcaustin is the same as every pro I’ve seen lately has been coming from the new plant. It’s actually got a couple of years under their belt and I’m guessing management has it under a microscope. I doubt their trucks have any significant issues compared to the Baja plant at this point

 

I went out to my truck and found that the back right door at the bottom rear corner protrudes slightly more than the other doors. You have to run your fingers across it to tell it’s not perfectly flush. I don’t care.

I am OCD (like literally). My advice is to enjoy the truck and try not to get too crazy. These trucks are built within pretty tight tolerances and because we’re all crazy on this site we see things nobody else sees. The more you look, the more you find, and it detracts from the enjoyment. I feel my truck on the whole is very solid and high quality. They’ve made a million of these things. Anyway, my two cents.

 

If people only knew how many hands touch their vehicle from the time it leaves the plant to the time it ends up in their driveway they would be shocked. Not to mention the various trians and trucks that they're loaded on to and unloaded off of alone the route.

Minor scuffs here and there usually are not from the assembly plant.
