Sorry, no, 1,000 miles isn't even remotely enough; many manufacturers, Honda for instance, strongly recommends keeping the factory oil for 10,000 miles. To take it one step further, the last time I had a BMW I was encouraged to keep the factory fill in for 15,000 miles.

Throw some firewood in the bed, grab an ice cream cone, and drive around town like you stole it.
When you are done, the bed will be scuffed and the carpet will be stained.
NOW it's now broken in and you won't have to baby it any more.

Well, do what you want. Many different perspectives here. Manual says first oil change at 10,000 miles.

Drive it the way you want. I've done so since I picked it up with 20kms on it. At 40k now with no issues or concerns.

My Dealer would only change the oil at 10k for free under the Toyota free maintenance plan (That's what they said anyhow) So, I changed mine at 2,500 and yes there were some metal (As to be expected...) It doesn't hurt to change the oil earlier than required- Doing it later becomes a warranty issue....

Really? You'd rather believe some internet geek than the engineers who designed both the engine and the manufacturing process? You can believe what you like, but 1,000 miles is way-WAY too short for an initial oil change.

    Ok... I have two questions....
1st, saw both videos.. first video says run your engine hard, while second video says take it easy for the first 1000 miles? Did anyone catch that? They're saying the opposite...
2nd... If you change the oil/filter at a 1000 miles! Then changed it again at 5,000 miles! What would be the harm???

My father was a "Master Mechanic" So, growing up in that house was very interesting. You were quizzed at the dinner table all the time. Needless to say - These were the rules for new/rebuilt engine break in that were burnt into our heads: Keep RPM'S under 2500 as much as possible (Not easy...), Maintain max speed under 65 MPS, and Vary speeds - no long trips at a constant speed. Dump oil at 1,000 miles! Have fun!

Sorry, as an engineer who has worked for three of the world's auto makers (not Toyota), I can honestly say some of the absolute worst advice I've ever heard regarding automotive health, came from "Master Mechanics". I'm not saying your father isn't good, but I am saying, he isn't an engineer who knows more than the highly educated and very experienced engineers who developed both these engines and the manufacturing process used to build them. Long story short, you can do and say what you like, but that doesn't make it even remotely true.

Funny-He went on to be the lead engineer at GE Aviation designing the engines that keep airplanes in the air. When a jet engine fails many people die, when a car engine fails you call AAA. I worked for Mercedes Benz for many years as a computer engineer- The mechanical engineers did not disagree with this process. I guess opinions are like assholes, everyone has one....

I also worked for Mercedes-Benz, both in Montvale and in Stuttgart, and I have to call B.S. on your claim the mechanical engineers did not agree; I was actively part of the process for evaluating synthetic oil and extended oil changes back in the 1990s, and the cold hard facts are hard to deny; there is zero benefit to an early oil change.

I was there until they closed up shop and moved to Atlanta. I took the package and didn't transfer. Much better life not dealing with the crazy Germans anymore!

he is far from the only source that recommends that. i rather do what is best for the engine, rather than some recommendation for EPA/cost reasons. So i change it early.

Horseshoez, in the first video at 3:15, the man says drain it at 500 miles and refill with whatever oil the manufacture says.

Edit:He says it again at 4:40

Im no engineer, but i dont see any harm in changing oil @ 1000 miles and then 5000 miles, and so on....becuase if there's any chance of fod in your engine remove it. And add new oil....if theres no fod great! Clean engine,
