I have no concern about properly done oil changes that are "early" but we do have people on this board sweating 500 dollar deductibles - so I get those looking to go 10k or more for 'cost savings'.

Me, personally, I'm in the camp that filtration matters more than the oil selected or, to a degree, the OCI.

FOD, in the sense of a jet engine is very different that FO which is trapped in an oil filter. There is literally zero chance of any of those FO from getting past the filter and doing any actual "D".

His concern might be damage they do before it gets to the filter.

@Discokiller How long do you plan to keep this truck? Do you tend to sell your vehicles often?

I never baby a new motor. They need cylinder pressure to seat new rings well. Just don't run them hard for long periods. You want short wo throttle runs.

None to speak of, just enjoying it for the moment.
Except of course those pesky owners manuals that state clearly there are restrictions for the first 1000 miles...but hey what do they know! They just designed and built the darn thing! Geez how dare they tell us how to properly break-in a vehicle!

This right here, I have built engines and they must break in and if the MFR put something in it to aid in this you are defeating the intent by dumping it early

I keep my vehicles for 14-16 years or when they are just not worth maintaining anymore.

Because I keep my vehicles long term, I tend to really stay on top of maintenance and 5K oil changes. If I only kept my vehicles short term 5-10 years or less, I would just do the basic recommended maintenance.

Either way, just get out there and enjoy your new ride! Heading to the cabin 5.5 hours away tomorrow to winterize for the season. Looking forward to it. Having a awesome truck to get there really helps.

Looking out the window of the Cabin last visit at the deer hanging out.

I kept my last toyota for 19 years till the cost of maintaining it was too great. I did 15k mile synthetic oil changes on it once a year. It still was running great at nearly 300k miles. The synthetic oil's today have great additive packages that don't break down like decades ago. Imo, changing oil at 5k miles is a total waste of money.
