    blog post incoming

I already know I'm going to get roasted, and in the future I will very likely regret having posted this publicly. I played with the welder today and these are my first ever welds. I'm a little confused by the voltage adjustment as it only goes up to 5.0 (or maybe 6.0) in decimal increments so I really couldn't tell you what settings I was running until I read up a little more on how this is supposed to work. I'm guessing everything was set too high since it seemed like I was burning holes in the material, but let me know if you guys can tell anything through the computer screen. Any obvious advice other than figuring out how to control my settings and know what it's actually set to?

@Kwikvette I know I am supposed to just pick one and stick with it but I wanted to try everything once I got set up today :D. I will probably either just focus on straight beads or fillets going forward until I feel better about how they turn out.

1-I just started trying to do straight beads on a little 1/8 coupon I cut off. I numbered the beads in order of when I did them so 1 here is my first ever attempt. I was feeling good about 4 until a hot BB bounced into my mask and I had to stop to get that out of there.

    1-First4.jpg

    2-UnderFirst4.jpg

2-I then tacked another coupon at roughly 90° and tried running a fillet on each side. On the first side you can see I blew a hole in the material at the end. On the second side I was feeling ok but then slipped off the button and killed it and had to try restarting 1/3 of the way through.

    Second fillet

    Underside of both
    5-UnderFillets.jpg

3-I then set this whole chunk onto another flat piece and tried to do a lap. You can see where this weld terminated abruptly... I threw the breaker (and started melting my tailgate liner).

    7-UnderFirstLap.jpg

4-I ground away at that weld, turned both of my settings down, and tried running a bead alongside it.

Death Valley this coming Jan/Feb as a mini meet :burp:

@Wulf may try to attend, but it's hard for many people due to vacation and all.

@eon_blue and I need to discuss it further regarding planning but we're both pretty set on going.

    You coming to DV?

@Kwikvette I may end up getting a welding degree for my new position at work. Should be all paid for because of how long I've been employed. Might be sometime next year, we'll see.
