37’s... Anyone crazy enough?

My junk, still a daily driver, still havent broken anything, still the oem cvs/rack. Big ole body/breakover/big booty has been the limiting factor on the big lines. Duals have been working great, cruises at 80mph with stock diff gears and gets around 15-16mpg after calculating for the speedo difference.

 

Winter 37’s on the way. Treps will get put away till the Spring.




Also beefed up the new spindles (old and new pics). And new rack getting finished.





and I splurged on lug nuts….

Chris has Bilstein 5100s and sticky 39s, this is the way. Literally about to get rid of my Fox's and switch to 6112s or 5100s since they actually have the most travel out of any mid travel shock.

I’ve been on 5100’s for the last 5 years, I will never hold a match to the stuff that Chris does but they do fine in the slow crawly stuff. That is a huge budget leftover for steering and tubbing if you don’t splurge on fancy coilovers. I’m saying all this as I actually recently did just that but I digress anyway. I imagine having a trailer is quite a game changer for full sending a build, that always helps. It’s great to see the limits pushed on his relatively stock taco. Pretty unreal stuff. Not sure 5100’s are actually any longer or as long as mid travel coilovers but it’s all about where you put your budget if you’re on a budget.

 

Yeah I got some typical Fox 2.5s for like $400 and had them rebuilt.
The Bilsteins are an extra .75" of travel (might be a little more) than any ext travel coilover.

6112’s are incredible. That is the craziest thing though. How can you even label the EXT travel as “mid travel” when it is shorter than an OE replacement 5100. Don’t get me wrong I love that but it’s insane.

 

Are you running a sway bar and what UCA do you have? It’s possible those two items would not allow an additional .75” or travel too

 

Found the measurement page, guess its just the 5100s that have much more than ext travel.
My Foxs measure 4.9 shock travel.

 

I’d be curious what the travel is on the 8112’s.

Well there goes my 6112 dreams

 

I got more actual up travel and overall travel when I went to 6112s.
F the numbers.
Also went to 7100s in the rear at the same time.
I think Bilstein's are awesome but thats just me.
Going to Fox 2.5 stuff soon but got to cause of the stuff I'm doing to run 37s.
I'm kinda new to all this offroading and don't do any of the fast stuff.

 

FYI 38’s don’t fit as well as 37’s.



And yeah yeah I know 38’s are baby size these days and I’m not special. Stupid maybe.
