I tend to agree on the large trailer game. Part of me would like that experience because they're freakin awesome inside, but having to travel with a monster of a trailer and be really picky about the sites I can even get into just doesn't seem like fun to me. Mine is small enough where I can generally tuck into most gas stations, I don't need a full service truck stop by any stretch but big enough inside to be comfortable if we get stuck inside in the rain. Good happy medium, in my opinion. But, I do really miss our old pop up and tent camping at times. When my kids get older, I can see getting back into tenting (still keep the camper, but go on some tent trips also).

Biggest game changer in all this haha

If we end up procreating, it'll be after the AT, but if I wanted to the road to Tuk, I'd probably do it in tents off roof racks with kids and/or dogs in the cab for the overnights. I say that now, but most likely it would be hard to do even that and we'd look at SOME sort of travel trailer.

It's just me and the wife and the dog. Makes things a lot easier, I can leave the dog in the truck for 20-30 minutes if needed. And her food is stored in a big bin and doesn't need to be refrigerated.

You're not kidding about the kids thing. My wife and I started out tent camping, had our first kid, did one trip with an infant and a large dog in the tent, and bought a pop up. Did the pop-up thing for a couple years, had our second kid, did one trip with an infant, a toddler and a large dog in a pop up, and bought a hard side camper. We are on a second hard side camper, this one being a little bigger, but this is likely where we'll stay for a bit, unless I suddenly become independently wealthy.

Yeah I mean that's why I did some of the stuff I did now. I know when I retire I won't want to try to sleep in a cab, drive for 8 hours a day, etc. I had to look at all my trip plans, and for the most part they can all be adapted to kids as needed - except the AT, so that's a front of the line sort of thing.

Especially since I don't want to try to do that at 55 o_O (when there's an option to give it a whack at 31)

Oh for sure. I won't be groaning when standing up etc etc, but I'm sure I will not feel quite as spritely at 55-60 as I do now to spend 6-8 months in hammocks, in the woods, hiking day in and day out. :notsure:

I'm hitting the ovens. Good day to make some focaccia.

    Hey now.

IF I hit your age

It's a commitment I'll make. Until I physically cannot do things, I'll be moving. My cousin is similar in mindset. I won't complain ahout heat, or being too old.

there was like three cars in the lot.

@Pugga What kind of camper are you into now?

We did the same and basically being able to travel with our dog is so much better than finding someone to leave him with or use the kennels. Plus the kids really dig the camper and all. We did two weeks straight at the end of summer and we had such a good time. Surprisingly no one was fighting or getting on each other's nerves after that long in a confined space. I think the great outdoors has such a positive effect on the kids mood and overall well-being.

My son does ask if I'm still going to get a roof top tent and then use both. I think he wants that for his own space, but he's still 8. Once he's older we might change our set up or add that.

    Cheers.

I’m really pushing the limits of the 250, i know…

24’ box, bunk beds for the kids, queen bed for us, big enough if we get trapped inside during a cold, rainy day but small enough to be easy to tow and park. I can maneuver it through some pretty tight spots relatively easy. It’s a good size for us.

Redid the drum brakes on my truck, now my truck actually stops well!
(I replaced the wheel studs for extended ones, and when I pulled the left side drum off, I bent the front shoe so badly that by adjusting the shoes the drum was almost locked up, but the pedal was still really soft. :frusty:)

Oh nice @Pugga!.. I thought you were towing that with a Tacoma for a second! As the kids get bigger and older they def need their own space ... especially for those cold or rainy days. Good stuff! I'm trying to get out for another weekend or two this fall before winter sets in.
    Cheers.

My weird neighbors have a newer Outback travel trailer that appears to be larger than that and tow it with an old Yukon. They often live in it in their driveway. Probably because the money they should have put into their run down house to keep it from falling apart went into the camper instead.

Haha oh no. I think my TW buying days are well past.

    Hope everyone is doing well.

Also, a good weekend to take care of all your oil change needs before the cold weather gets here. Someone needs that reminder lol.
