when i've priced fiberglass with just a couple add-ons (windows that open) they come out to around $3500+. but they're fiberglass, heavier, not as strong. even still, i'd say if you find a dealer who will sell you one for $2000 in this, the year of our Lord two thousands and twenty-two, you should absolutely snap that up.

I have been looking at a getting a topper for a while and was looking at the RSI Smart Cap but then I saw this from GFC and Im also looking at the All-cab one.

How important is it to have the positive pressure vent? I see RSI has one and the Alu-Cab cantor one has one but the GFC does not. Thanks!

The RSI only opens from the inside, so you could only do that if you left the cap window open for the whole ride.

My mid rise ARE MX topper was like 2700ish iirc with vented windoors both sides, sliding front window, carpeted interior, yakima rails, color matched. Yea it doesn't have a high of a load rating on the roof as some of the other options, but if you're not putting a super heavy tent on top of it it'll be perfectly fine. The fiberglass has a lifetime warranty so if you I'm not worried about it cracking or anything when offroading it. I also don't think it's that much heavier than the metal topper options fwir. Like less than 40 lb difference or something. And that's with my mid rise one, not even a cab height which would save a bit more weight.

Just depends on your needs, but I'm happy with mine. I wouldn't rule it out as an option when looking for a topper. Much more affordable than $4400...
Not to mention when sleeping in the back, it's much more insulating than a framed sheet metal topper.

Windoors are the only way to get a topper. If you don't have/get windoors in your topper you're doing it wrong.

I have a quote in my inbox from earlier this year. An ARE CX with the same options (windoors and Yakima) for $1000 more than that.

That brings the difference between fiberglass and any of the metal caps to only a few hundred. If it were $1500 less for a fiberglass cap I'd definitely consider that option.

literally, that was 90% of my reasoning to go with an RSI cap. quotes varied between $3000 and $3200+ tax+ install and the RSI was $3800 +shipping+ no tax+$20 install(2 buddies, 2 six packs)

In my area, fiberglass shells with same options such as side doors and windows are about a grand less than RSI/RLD/GFC shells.

More importantly, RSI/RLD/GFC fit my needs vs the fiberglass shells.

Scheduled to pick up the GFC in December. So her Leitner rack and accessories will be for sale. I don’t think I can post on for sale forum because the rack is still on the vehicle.

I thought so compared to some of these other topper options.
I can't imagine it being drastically different in other areas unless overall pricing has gone up since then in general for fiberglass caps

edit: didn't see the above comments. Ya it seems like prices must have gone up quite a bit since then
Would be curious to call the place I went through and get a quote on the same one I got and see if it is really a 1k difference

I last got a quote on The Unicorn (black 2nd-gen 6' Leer 180 with roof rails, folding front window, and sliding windoors) about a year ago, and it was something like $3,500 including installation.

I search Craigslist for "tacoma shell" pretty much everyday, in the hopes that The Unicorn makes an appearance. It never does. Regardless, prices are pretty consistent. Tack on an extra $500 if non-sliding windoors are present.

Note: There has to be something wrong with the silver ARE with the racks and contractor windoors, because it's been posted a couple times at this point.

Thanks for this. Now you got me on the fence too. I am assuming they have better locks than RSI, in regard to freezing temps. I need something to withstand winters in Truckee, and Colorado.

I agree, the price is heinous. However like someone else mentioned your left arm and first born for a topper seems to be the new norm.

If you have any suggestions on alternatives...I am all ears.

Just so that we are clear,
for those of you looking for that 800-LB load rating, you'll need to purchase 4 beef bars = $199/ea.
Your price point jumps up if you really want that crazy dynamic load capability.

Although... I can't imagine anyone needing that much weight on top of their topper, but who knows.

Honestly as cool as it looks, for around 3 ish grand I would expect the rear window to open or fold down like most toppers on the market. Seems like a basic thing to do.

    I agree.
And more like 4.5k with window options…
