The ring is about 3 inches. Not sure on the pin size, but my 3/16 punch is about one or two sizes too small.

Story time about my experience with JDM San Diego. Okay so I had my engine replaced a few years back by JDM San Diego in Chula Vista. I bought the engine for $1000 and was charged $500 for installation I believe. They sent me to a partnered mechanic shop in Spring Valley where I towed the truck to have the work done. First engine wouldn't even turnover for whatever reason, so JDM handled it and gave me another one. The new one had a crazy loud tick that the mechanic dude said was "normal" and that just to drive it around so the oil lubricates the internals??? No my dude, that was not normal as it was audibly the lifters making a racket, which told me this engine was toast already. I had a 90 day warranty for any problems no matter what. I should've called JDM as soon as heard the loud ass ticking but I was young and needed my truck. The engine blew a rod through the side of the engine about a 2 week later. JDM covered a new engine and installation again. I've had the engine ever since 2018 with no issues since. JDM engines are hit or miss from my experience. Sucks to see they lowered their warranty to 60 days. Make sure they transfer all USDM parts from the original engine to the JDM one or you're gonna have problems. They tell you the engines have 60,000 miles, but it's a lie they have probably double that if not more as I was told. Drive the truck hard those 60 days to bring up any issues the engine may have. Just my 2 cents.

Bottom line: JDM took care of any issues I had and rectified it. The affiliated mechanic shop did good work on the swap. Make sure you read the warranty paperwork and what is covered. 3rd 3.4 engine has been bullet proof since. Hope this helps!

Interesting.. luckily my motor might not be as bad as I thought it was. I think I just need a good coolant flush. Ya they told me 90 day warranty, and about $750 for installation. Who knows I guess. Either way, thanks for sharing your experience.

Anyone have a pair of OE LED tail lights they're looking to get ride of for a 2nd gen? I really only need the driver's side but I'll buy a pair.

I remember a pair recently in the 2nd Gen BST forum. LED taillights that is.

Does anyone know of any shop or person that does headlight retrofits in the San Diego area?

I’m looking to get retrofits for a Focus ST and want to see if there’s anyone local before going with some online vendors.

    Thanks!

Probably a long shot but Leo @Customretrofitheadlights did mine a couple years ago. Doesn’t look like he’s been on here in a while though.

I actually used that guy to do a BHLM on my Tacoma lights a few years ago. I messaged him last week on FB and no response. Hope he is alright at least.

Hope everyone is doing well, just got back from Havasu and now I can finally get back to getting my Tacoma running sooner than later. Doing this turbo setup on my own vehicle is incredibly time consuming since I am trying to address everything I can think of so I wont have to redo anything, sounds good in theory but we all know how that usually goes! The details are absolutely killing me, haha..

I still have a god bit to do but I got most of my exhaust system built using 4" stainless, I was going to use Aluminum for the tailpipe portion but since I have extra 4" stainless tubing I may as well just use what I already have rather than complicating things as I usually do.
Anyway just popping in to say hi!

I better post up some pics of this turbo system I have been spouting off about or people will think it's not real, lol. Having a 750whp 1st gen 5-lug Tacoma will be absolutely ridiculous! Ill post a few of those for ya later tonight so you guys can see how much crap I need to address in order to have a 1000hp capable setup..
Id push it to 1K hp but since I have an original LS1 block they tend to split at the 1K power level so I'm gonna stay away from that since I'd rather not have a 2 piece block!

Windowed blocks provide more ventilation? Lol

That is correct, that can happen if part of the rotating assembly lets loose (AKA broken rod becomes an internal reciprocating hole puncher).
I hear that can affect compression in some cases lowering power output which will ultimately result in the added ventilation you were referring to.

    Yes
This truck had a hair over 320 hp with a 22RE built by A to Z Racing Systems similar to the LCE strokers w/ a turbo ....made a lot of Mustangs and Camaros cry ...power to weight was just stupid. Even with Yokohama slicks I had to put at least 100+ lbs in the bed at the tailgate for it to think about hooking up. I don't know how the heck you are going to get that power to the ground in yours ?

Damn better not drive that thing too fast with that kind of ground clearance! Those 22RE and 22R in general can make some pretty good power. I built one for a buddy about 25 years ago and we used Chevy small block valves and I forget which rods, I believe they were from another domestic engine that we had to machine a bit, added a turbo and that thing ripped!! So I know what you mean as far as traction problems. We never dyno tested it so I'm not sure about power levels but it was PLENTY for that particular setup.

My truck is a bit different in the regard that i has an LS swap and that actually put the front to rear weight bias more to the rear wheels since I set the drivetrain so far back. It made just under 400 to the wheels N/A and hooked surprisingly well on Michelin Pilots in the rear but they don't last long.

Now with the turbo nearly doubling the power on E85 I will certainly have to address traction issues for sure, I might mini tub it so I can get a 12+" wide wheel back there for a larger contact patch and see how much that helps, I guess I will find out just how bad it is, haha. Blowing the tires loose at 100mph gets pretty exciting! :burnrubber:
